Contest 50

If BBC Contest 50 doesn't show up this month, it will actually be good for me. I really have alot of MOCs I need to shoot out, but I don't want to be tempted to destroy them and build an entry for it.

Anyway, would it be wise to seperate pieces by colors? I'm not sure becasue if it is not, I don't want to waste any time.

P.S. I'll try to get Keetongu up tomorrow! :)

I chose piece sorting over color sorting. I'm pretty sure Draxon and Seran sorts their pieces by color.

I used to sort pieces by color, that is until I dumped them all out on the floor and never sorted them again. :P

LOL at Bunda.

Nah, I've had mine in both, and colour is definitley worth wasting time, especially if you put the + and O rods in a seperate bag.

Hah! I did that too. Had 'em all sorted by color, but it was hard keeping them that way. So I mixed 'em.

Anyways.... you scared me, I thought you were talking about BBC 50 being here. I want it to come, but not yet.

I sort by parts. I think it works much better than color. Because some colors don't fit, like what color would orange fit into? Red? Yeah... It is confusing sometimes.

Maybe I'll take some pictures of my setup when I get home.

Yeah, I did it too.

I used to do what Chrome does, but then I actually started to bother sorting pieces by color, and occaisionally by type. It works better. Go for color.

Also, you should hold your own Building Contest in your Blog, neh?

I would say no. Of course I never have done that, but that is just what I would think.

Actually, I have my pieces sorted out very well, but the way that I do it is by piece type. (I have Weapons in one large drawer, Axles in another, Pegs/bushings here, ammo there, metalic armor in one, colored feet in another) The thing that I think that would be bad about the color is that you look at the box of red pieces and see a big blob of red, and thus it would be hard to find a piece. On the other hand, if you had all of your connector pieces in one drawer, you can find a specific one alot easier.

Another positive thing about sorting by piece usage is that if you want some piece, let's say a socket, but you don't know which color you would like it in, you can just pull out the socket drawer and shuffle through them to find the color that you want. I would have to recommend sorting by piece type/usage. This has worked very well for me. I can find the armor in one drawer, the masks in another, and the beams in yet another one. I might be able to upload a pic for you... Anyway, I hope that that helps! :)

Well, there are two trains of thought for how I sort pieces. On the one hand, I have an Ultimate Collecto're bucket where I keep all the rare, unusual, and possibly useful pieces that could be used for good MOCs.

On the other, I have a huge tub filled with all the rest of my pieces in a jumbled pile. Still, I can always find the right piece.

I do mine by colour. This way I know exactly what I have in each colour, and can grab a few drawers at a time to build with. I plan on separating a lot of the different pieces within each colour, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

But oh man did it take me forever to sort them. I used to keep them in one giant container all mixed together, and I found that almost impossible to find what I wanted.

Also, I hope number 50 is something special like 25 was. If not, I'm going to be disappointed. 50 is more important than 25.

I wouldn't even mind if it were the same thing. :P

Of course I would come in last, but that's beside the point...

I sort mine by color.

GBG @: To counter that, I've set up the following argument:

Yes, it would be a little hard to find pieces if they were all sorted by color. But if you sort them by piece, it takes up a ton of room. You would need either a bag or a full dresser just to arrange them all. But if you sort them by color and are trying to only use 2 colors, it is incredibly easy. Trust me, I've tried both methods and color sorting is by far better.

*beats Bunda soundly about the head*

Stop with the low self-esteem thing already! You're at least as good as I was when I was your age. And really, your skill level doesn't matter that much anyway. MOCing should be something for personal enjoyment, not a performance art.

I'd say yes, sort them by color. What I would recommend however is to sort the small pieces, those you'll probably use 90% of the time in a MoC, somewhere separate as it can be a hassle finding them amidst the bigger pieces. You could consider buying some of those small plastic shelves mechanics use to store their gears, pins and other accessories in; they do wonders, believe me.

Edit: My spelling is trash today.

Man! There are so many ways for me to do this...

Thanks for all the ideas guys! If you have pics, they are welcome. :)

I sort by Color. It's a whole lot easier to find what color you want, and i keep all my Pins in one container, and Axles in another. But, I'll always have to take the out.
