Yesterday I went over to my friends house. They live in the middle of nowhere, and own a bunch of awesome stuff.

 

Like a Potato Cannon.

 

The PC is a piece of PVC pipe, widened at one end. You load it with a rotting potato, or apple, by ramming it down the barrel, using the principal of "Push hard enough and it'll fit". Then you spray hairspray into the widened end, screw the cap on, and spin a very clever flintlock type system that creates a spark inside.

 

So the hairspray explodes, and sends the projectile really, really far...

 

Then we started loading it with a rag a a golfball. Then we shot it straight up. We were watching it go up, and then it started drifting, and, well, disappeared.

 

We haven't seen it come down yet.

We wrap golf tees in paper towels and shoot them through aluminum cans.

Or pill bottles/practice golf balls for the large one.

Easier one I did in Chem last year (Pressure)

 

A PVC pipe, and make a hole in a potato so you get a perfect fitting chunk.

 

Another solid pipe that's the perfect fit.

Push it in, pressure build up, and FOOMPH!

I helped my friends build a potato cannon. Their family went camping and started launching potatoes at the campgrounds and a park ranger confiscated it. :P
