My Thoughts on the Matter

Top ten celebrity character crushes (which has basically just become "favorite characters" because I'm not sure I'd say I have crushes for all of them)--both for male and female.

Female:

  1. Fantine (Anne Hathaway)--Les Misérables

  2. Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic)--Castle

  3. Parker (Beth Riesgraf)--Leverage (honorable mention to her brief appearance in Criminal Minds as Dr. Maeve Donovan as that side story was adorable [edit: er, not the end of it, but the character in general], as well as Maxine from NCIS, because her character was adorable there, too)

  4. Young Cosette (Isabelle Allen)--Les Misérables (the exception to this list, as she's obviously not a crush. But her character is still adorable and deserves to be listed)

  5. Hermione Granger (Emma Watson [<3])--Harry Potter

  6. Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders)--How I Met Your Mother (honorable mention to Maria Hill, from The Avengers)

  7. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke)--Game of Thrones

  8. Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightly)--Pirates of the Caribbean

  9. Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan)--Doctor Who (I can't really decide which is my favorite, and I love them all, so).

  10. Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack), Lois Lane (Erica Durance), and Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk)--Smallville (I seem to go through phases with them, and depending on the episode/season, I'll like one more than the other. I'm also almost positive that my mind is just blanking on more female crushes, and so these probably wouldn't be on the list at all if I could remember who I'm forgetting)

    EDIT:

  11. Buttercup (Robin Wright)--The Princess Bride (cannot believe I forgot her D: )

Male (doing top 15 because there's no way I could choose just 10 D: ):

  1. Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion)--Castle (honorable mention to Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly, and basically any other character Fillion has played)

  9. John Reese (Jim Caviezel)--Person of Interest (also just Caviezel in anything)

  10. Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg)--Shooter (honorable mention to Dignam from The Departed)

  11. John Watson/Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman)--Sherlock/The Hobbit

  12. George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart)--It's a Wonderful Life

    George+Bailey.jpg

  13. Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson)--Taken (also anything Liam Neeson is in, because of his voice; honorable mention specifically to Ra's al Ghul)

  14. Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris)--How I Met Your Mother

And many more, I'm sure (I'm also positive my mind is blanking on some obvious ones, but oh well).

re: female number 3 description:

That side story was awesome... Until the end of it. That was just yeah. Wasn't my favourite moment of the side story, that's for sure. =P

Well, right, oops. XD I'm pretty sure I actually cried when that happened.

I guess I should've said I loved the character, not necessarily the side story. =P

That probably would've been a better idea, yeah. =P Like, the idea of the story was awesome; but the way they handled the end of it was just... I don't think it was necessary. =/ Granted, it gave Reed some character development because of it, but yeah. =P

But yeah, I was just staring at the screen when that happened, though I had had a bad feeling it would go that way when things started heading in that direction. =P

I think the worst part about it was that she only showed up in like 2 episodes, and before that she was just a voice on the phone for a long time. They built her up so much, and then... ;_; (it was definitely predictable, though, like you said. But that didn't keep me from going "please don't please don't" the whole episode =P)

It's true that it gave him some good character development, but still. I don't see why they couldn't've kept her around for another season or something first. =P

Yeah, I agree so much there. xP Pretty much had the same reaction. =/

Yeah. Seemed like a waste of potential for the character, and her actually being around would've made the impact on him even worse if she was eventually gotten rid of like that. =P

:kaukau: Fantine is the reason why I had to make sure to complete my list of most beautiful female characters, because I knew she would blow me away. Let's just say that Selina Kyle is no longer on my list because Fantine, through her suffering and her sacrifice, is so incredibly human to me.

Hermione Granger: yeah, that's true. I went with Luna Lovegood, but if I went strictly with a celebrity crush instead of a character crush, I would go with Hermione/Emma.

Cobie Smulders: JACOBIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Nothing but love there. Only I definitely love her role as Maria Hill more, considering that I've never watched How I Met Your Mother. Too bad she's married. And Canadian.

Doctor's companions: Definitely Amy Pond. Perhaps I'm biased in that I know a beautiful woman with a very similar name. But no, Amy is definitely my favorite, both for her looks and for her backstory. Although my favorite female character on Doctor Who is still Sally Sparrow (who was played by my celebrity crush Carrey Mulligan).

Smallville: CHLOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Although I really, really love Lois as well. Like, I really love Lois, to the point where I began liking her more than Chloe sometimes. Which was really saying something, because I like Chloe a lot. To the point where people posted on my blog to tell me that I was disturbing. But I don't care, because Chloe is awesome, and I'd marry Allison Mack (she's into philosophy!). Major props for listing those characters. Only for the life of me I don't understand why anyone could tolerate Lana. Clark was like this over her (and this song is almost perfect down to the very name):

ALL RIGHT, NOW FOR THE GUYS

Well, uh, I'm actually going to keep my comments to a minimum, since I'm actually planning on writing a series of entries about the top 10 manliest men in fiction, so I'll just make a few brief statements. First, you listed my top two, for which you have my respect. You, sir, have good taste. If anyone wants to predict what the top two on my list are, I've dropped the breadcrumbs here and there and it should be pretty obvious.

Anyway, Liam Neeson is a source for major man-crush for me, primarily because of his role as Qui-Gon Jinn, but what really elevated him to someone I respect as an actor is his depiction of Oskar Schindler. There was rarely ever a more noble, more powerful, more inspiring performance. That being said, that was a non-fiction role, so it's sort of hard to have an innocent crush on it. It still puts everything else he's played in a far more awesome perspective, though. Why you listed him for his role as Bryan Mills, I don't know. Pretty cool role, actually, but I would have pinned him in either his role as Qui-Gon or *ahem* Jean Valjean.

Seriously, that guy is awesome.

Anyway, the other couple of comments I had were that I loved Christian Bale as Batman (though he should be easy enough to replace since the comics aren't 100% consistent on how Bruce Wayne is drawn). Way better than Henry Cavill as Clark Kent. And then I like the Doctor, but I think you know which incarnation I liked the best (I will miss being on that show).

What!? You included the other three companions and not Clara?! Why would you do that?

Wait... No... 5... Was forgetting one...

(Donna was another companion I also didn't include) But the reason I didn't include Clara was because I just don't think we've seen enough of her yet. I really like her so far, but wouldn't quite consider her a top 10 yet.

Yeah, Fantine has always been one of my favorite characters--Anne Hathaway just blew me away with her performance of I Dreamed a Dream.

(I also might agree on liking Ginny or Luna more [i really need to re-read the books...], but I mean, Emma Watson, so... =P)

Cobie Smulders: JACOBIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Nothing but love there. Only I definitely love her role as Maria Hill more, considering that I've never watched How I Met Your Mother. Too bad she's married. And Canadian.

She was definitely great as Maria Hill--I just had to include her as an honorable mention. Even so, though, I don't think we've seen enough of Hill for that character alone to be one of my favorites.

Only for the life of me I don't understand why anyone could tolerate Lana.

Yeah, the more that I think about it (or watch episodes of the show), the less I like Lana. I think maybe what I liked so much is the "idea" of her--like people on that show mention all the time, how Clark and Lana are the "perfect couple", etc. (obviously not really, but it's the idea that's in everyone's head). Overall I most definitely like Chloe/Lois a lot more.

You, sir, have good taste. If anyone wants to predict what the top two on my list are, I've dropped the breadcrumbs here and there and it should be pretty obvious.

Glad you approve. ^^ Gonna guess that one of them is Jimmy Stewart.

Why you listed him for his role as Bryan Mills, I don't know.

There were several reasons for that, really. I think one of the main things would be because the phone scene is such an iconic scene for Neeson's voice (and would be far less cool if it were a different voice). Another big reason would be because of his sacrifice for his daughter--he's out of the game and wants to just live life, but when his daughter's taken...all that changes. He no longer cares about himself, but only about her, and getting her back. Plus I love spy movies. =P (and have yet to see Schindler's List, so couldn't include his character from there). As for Qui-Gon Jinn, he's definitely a great mentor role there, and Neeson was fantastic in that movie, but I think I enjoyed his character in Batman Begins more.

And then I like the Doctor, but I think you know which incarnation I liked the best

Haha, yeah. I -did- love Matt Smith (and Christopher Eccleston), too. And I mean, a lot. But Tennant is definitely my favorite, so he's the only one I mentioned.
