This is the Mixel joint thing I was talking about in the stream. If they released an axle-socket connector, you'd be able to replace the 3-axle neck with a ball-and-socket joint of equivalent length, leaving the gear mechanism and everything else intact.

(This isn't the best or clearest drawing, and the joint is actually upside-down from being the ideal orientation, but it demonstrates the concept better than I could probably describe it.)

Right now I'm using Toa Metru heads for my HF-upgraded Toa Mata (Lewa and Onua, who I'd shown in the hangout but weren't shown in the stream like I thought they would be, plus Tahu who's been around for a while) but they just aren't quite right for Toa Mata.

That is indeed epic. However, the Mixels seem to be designing the new socket system for... well, system. This is why I think a bunch of AFOLs on other sites are praising the Mixels even when they disliked the Bionicle and HF system joints. So the likelihood of that particular piece ever getting produced...

BUT I STILL WANT IT SO BADLY NOW!!

I don't imagine we'll necessarily be seeing TECHNIC or constraction figures using the new miniature joints extensively, but this is a piece I can picture being used in future sets.

Couldn't that piece be done with this and a shorter version of this? I think that would be easier to lobby for.

That wouldn't work for what Bfahome wants; the idea is to have a socket piece that can be plugged into the piece in the center of the Toa Mata gear function so the Toa can have poseable necks without sacrificing gear functions. I don't see how your solution would provide the same effect.

I've seen that done, and have tried it, but the difference is that A) it requires the gear mechanism to be removed and B) at least to me, the joint is too far down to look good.

This conceptual version leaves everything but the connection between neck and head unchanged, and it also moves the joint higher, which to me looks like it'd make a more natural-looking motion.

alternative solutions that exist that are exactly the same length as the original neck support and leave gear functions intact (if requiring the control axle a bit shorter)
