I do not see any logical purpose for such radical actions to be taken, whether I be an emperor or not. Perhaps I might have that authority, and you are right that I could have such things done, but thought as these are better not played with. If logic were to dictate anything, the projection of an individual through a window at heights likely too dangerous for safe landing would remove the groove to a greater degree on the long run then if such a reaction had been evaded. It would harm the image of the emperor, and even in Rome the power of the emperor only lasted so long as it had the support of the people. Such cruel and unusual punishment for a misdemeanor would cause the public to question the rationality of emperor, and while it would not necessarily cause a coup it would still enervate the effectiveness of the emperor's reign, or "set of the groove", so to speak.

 

Overall, my outlook on this method is that it demonstrates poor judgment possibly resulting from incomplete mastery of an unbalanced emotional core. If such were to be the root cause, then one could also assume that the emperor would be more inclined to become compromised in decisive moments as well, even if their conscious judgment is clear.

 

Meanwhile, Turakii, while some metaphors are extensive, this one is not and I would encourage you not to go too deep into it. The term for this is "outsmarting oneself", an aphorism my father is particularly fond of.
