Review: Five Score And Seven Years Ago

So I did a review for my school's newspaper on Relient K's new CD, Five Score and Seven Years Ago.

I must say that this CD rocks, and I hope you enjoy the review:

Anyone that is into the rock/punk-rock music style has probable heard of the band Relient K. The band is known for their rock style and meaningful lyrics, as well as awesome concerts and great blend of sounds in their songs. Now they are adding another CD to their history: Five Score and Seven Years Ago.

Even if words are probably going to hurt

I’d rather have the truth then something insincere

-Come Right Out and Say It

Relient K released their first album in 2000, and since then released four more albums, not including numerous EPs and a Christmas CD. Being a Christian band, some might think that these guys won’t make it big. But they already have, with two singles on the radio—both Christian stations and contemporary.

All I want to have// Is all that you can give me

And I’ll give right back// Everything I have in me

-The Best Thing

Their last CD, Mmhmm, sold real well, giving them a high-set bar to live up to. They certainly do with Five Score. The lyrics are meaningful, deep, well thought and still poking fun at life in some songs.

You came along one day and you rearranged my life

All I gotta say is I must’ve done something right

-I Must’ve Done Something Right

While a Christian band, don’t go thinking it will be full of praises directed straight toward Jesus. Relient K goes about spreading a message of morality and justice through their songs about life in general, as well as subtle hints of following the faith.

Cause we’re all guilty of the same things...

And I know that I have been forgiven

-Forgiven

Five Score certainly lives up to the band’s name for great Christian rock. The songs take a whole new level of the bands rock style, adding in more voices of the band (including an A Cappella for Pleading the Fifth) The songs are filled with beats and rhythms that just add to the band’s reputation for great songs with a feel good fun .

I’m faking my own suicide

Because I know you love me, you just haven’t realized

-Faking My Own Suicide

One question: What did happen five score and seven years (107 years) ago? Well, whatever took place back in 1900 was an excellent muse for the band. This album

is full of Relient K style music that won’t disappoint the fan or a newcomer that decide to pick up the CD. Not just the music, but the lyrics and band’s style all add to the whole CD.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars (not exactly like Mmhmm, but still rocks and doesn’t disappoint)

Yeah, discuss it here! Great CD, huh guys?

Great CD, huh guys?

Most definitely. I've had it dl'd for the past eight weeks or so, but to make amends for my illegal deeds, I totally pre-ordered it too. Not only that, but the SE, to boot!

It's probably the best CD I've bought in the past year. Though Anberlin's Cities comes awfully close.

Tsk, tsk, it's "really well." :P

Anywho, I'm going to give this a listen soon enough and see if I like it. :psychotwitch:
