I watched the first three episodes of Arrested Development this weekend. I can't wait to watch more. I hope it's as good as people say it is, considering I'm currently watching... I first have to catch up with How I Met Your Mother (I'm 6 episodes into Season 7) and finish Outlaw Star (over halfway done).
And finally, friends coaxed me into watching the first two episodes of The Legend of Korra with them. Fantastic! I'm also really glad I had not first needed to have seen Avatar: The Last Airbender, though I knew enough to follow along or ask a few questions to a friend to get more familiar with bending and the culture. I definitely hope to continue watching when it airs in a few weeks (and friends have already said I need to watch Airbender anyway, so that will happen soon too).
If you like the new Avatar series, you'd probably like the old one as well. I think that it's safe to say that the humor in the two series is different, though, just so you know if you decide to watch the old series (I think that Sokka's humor gets wittier throughout the series). It really is a shame that Sokka's dead in this new series.
Watch Avatar. Watch it now. It is one of the greatest things to come out of western animation in the last decade. It starts good and just gets better and better with each episode.
You know what? I think I'm going to wait and finish HIMYM and Outlaw Star first. Maybe even catch up on some Castle, watch another season of Primeval, and I have the complete Stargate SG-1 box set (10 seasons) looking pretty on my shelf but I haven't even finished the first season. -CF
Arrested Development is fantastic, just finished watching it a couple weeks ago myself. Makes me excited for the upcoming new season (only on Netflix, but I have that), as well as a theatrical movie if I'm not mistaken?
Also, you really need to watch through Airbender as soon as you get a chance. It starts out more than a little slow, but around halfway through season 1 it really hits its stride and just gets consistently better throughout the rest of the series. It remains one of my all-time favorite shows.
Arrested Development! OH MANI love that show. So much.
Alright, Deevs. You [partly] got me into HIMYM, so tell me: Is AD as good as (or better?) than HIMYM? Not to give me high expectations or anything. Or lower them D:

Well, it only ran three seasons. AD is funnier (at least in the first 2 seasons), but HIMYM has characters you're going to care about a lot more. I'm not sure the two shows are comparable, to be honest. Very different types of humour and wit.
Arrested Development is probably my favorite TV show, it's absolutely brilliant. There is another season they have planned for it, no clue when, though. Avohkah mentioned a movie, and he is correct, they have one in the making. It's supposed to come out this year around August, or next year. They postponed the production for scriptwriting I think, so it might not come out until later.
Still, keep watching it. The first three episodes are great, but you've got to keep watching to really love it, but that's me. =P
