Being Bookish 2013

Spoiler alert: Once you graduate college you suddenly find plenty of time to read books that have been on your list for years, because homework is nonexistent!

While I read a lot over the summer, fall and winter, I have only just recently been pushing through books left and right. Being ambitious, I hope to read 40-60 books next year, including, but not limited to:

The Cassandra Project

NW

American Gods

Ready Player One

Gone Girl

Cloud Atlas

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

World War Z

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Redshirts

Robopocalypse

Night Circus

The Dresden Files

Any strike your fancy? What in particular is on your list for next year?

Have you ever heard of "The looking glass Wars"? Very interesting series.

Also hoping to read more Hero Factory books. GregF writes them, and they're wonderful. Like reading Bionicle. ^_^

At least three of those strike my fancy, but I have a ridiculous stack of books to read as it is. I will have to add those to my lists of things to read though.

Right now I have four books by George R.R. Martin to read.

I've wanted to read the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo ever since I saw the Swedish version of the movie on Netflix. Many of my friends have highly recommended World War Z and the Dresden files. I'd really like to get all three of those books this year.

If you read American Gods I'd recommend following it up with Anansi Boys.

Also, if you're a fan of L. Frank Baum's Oz books you could try "The Wicked Years" by Gregory Maguire. I still need to read the last book in the series, but it's been good up to then.

Books on my list include:

Inheritance

Out of Oz

A bunch of books by George R. R. Martin (got them for Christmas 2011 and still have yet to read them)

The Lord of the Rings (read them before but frankly after re-reading The Hobbit and watching the movie I'm feeling keen on reading them again)

And, on the less sophisticated side of things, all the new Hero Factory Secret Mission books by Greg Farshtey that are coming out this year.

You're gonna enjoy American Gods, I think. If you do, one of the next on your list should be Anansi Boys. Not quite a sequel, but based on a very similar sort of mythology and incorporating a character who may or may not be the same as a character in American Gods.

Have fun!! The Dresden Files are fantastic, and I think you'll enjoy them. Harry Dresden's narration is definitely fun to read. I hope to read Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy some time as well. I've heard they're good.

Reading the Oz books, at least Wicked but maybe the others too, is definitely something I want to do eventually.

Tinker, Tailer, Soldier, Spy is on my reading list as well. That and The Spy Who Came in from The Cold.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I really just did not care for American Gods. Maybe I just didn't 'get it'.
