Because I've had an urge for two separate games recently, both of which use GFWL, and I can't save or access saves in either of them because the $#Y^@%# thing won't bloody connect!

Must be your own problem; my corporate gaming executives inform me that always-online platforms such as these are completely reliable and never ever malfunction. Obviously in this instance you, the user, are doing something wrong, and they, the gracious overlords that they are, are completely in the right for their glorious platform that they kindly bestow upon us.
