It Has Begun

After several false and frustrating starts, I decided to put aside Glatorian Chronicles #7: Reluctant Unity for now until I feel like finishing it. I may have to change my main idea for it eventually if it continues like this. Or perhaps replace Ackar, the main character, with Kiina instead and see how that works out. Sometimes changing who the main character is can make a story better, so who knows.

Anyway, I've decided to begin work on Dimension Hoppers, an epic I have mentioned several times before in this blog. Essentially, it will take place in the same universe as the Shika Trilogy, but will be focused on a completely different set of characters who have little-to-no relation to the characters from the original epics. Although I can confirm that because of the very nature of this epic, some characters from the Shika Trilogy will be making appearances and cameoes in alternate universes and thus will likely act different from how they were normally portrayed in the rest of the series.

The beginning also takes place on a different island than Shika Nui, though I can confirm that the ending of AUA will lead into DiH. I still consider DiH to be an entirely different and separate epic from the Shika Trilogy, however, and one should be able to read it without having to read The Tales of Shika Nui, Tapestry of Evil, or An Unlikely Alliance to understand it.

Here's a brief summary of the plot for anyone who is interested:

When a valuable treasure is stolen from the island of Tanjo Nui, its two guaridans discover that the thief is a dimension hopper. In order to chase the thief and retrieve the Time Stone of Tanjo Nui, Isarot and Toa Kiriah use a Kanohi Olmak to hop dimensions to go after the thief. Will they succeed? And if they do, will their dimension hopping give them the wisdom they need to understand the Time Stone's true purpose?

I think the most intriguing aspect of the fic will be the fact that it will alternate between Kiriah and Isarot's POVs and both will be in first person (may possibly add a third POV later on, depending on how everything turns out, but for now it's just those two).

I've been wanting to write a full-length epic like this completely in first person for a while now and this epic gives me the chance to do just that. Certainly it will be difficult to make Isarot, Kiriah, and the possible third POV character all different enough so the reader will be able to easily distinguish between their POVs, but I think it will be a fun challenge, although I may need to get a beta reader when I finish it just in case. Right now, though, I am putting the name of the current POV character above the actual narrative every time it changes. That way the reader will immediately know who is telling the story whenever someone else takes center stage.

And to be frank, I'm glad that I get a chance to focus on new characters. I've been working on the Shika Trilogy for nearly two years now, so it will be refreshing to go on new adventures and meet new characters in this epic. Not that any of the characters from the Shika Trilogy were bad or anything, but I want to move onto new things now, which DiH gives me the opportunity to do.

And now for something completely different:

Sorairo Days - the theme song of Gurren Lagann - is even more epic in the Tengen Toppa movie edition than it normally is IMO. Listening to it right now, in fact. It's head-explodingly awesome :P .
