Probably because it's animated, and BZP doesn't support GIF avatars anymore.

Hit the nail on the head there, plus I don't know whether 64x64 images work anymore, there was a problem with that when the forums first came back.

Dang. Animated avatars are cool. I can see why you would miss it so much, because this is pretty distinct and characteristic.
