It's ridiculous, these people expecting a perfect utopia of smiles and glee. The world is grey for a reason.

I'm so sorry. I know that lots of us have felt like this before - Don't feel like you're alone.

Dear Janus, 'laughing it off' only works and should only work for silly little things that don't matter in the end. Anyone who says otherwise has clearly never been through anything really painful.

The best thing to do is to not look at death as so absolute.

 

Pretend, regardless of others around you or the circumstances, that the person you're grieving for is in fact standing next to you, both of you observing the same view.

 

Think then of asking them how THEY think you should be feeling at that moment... what the right emotion to be having at that moment is.

 

Because really, it's not impossible that there might be a tangible emotion given back in response.
