9 - Luna Lovegood

:kaukau: She was what got me really excited to see The Half-Blood Prince. Hermoine usually gets all the credit for being the cool female lead, but I prefer Luna instead. She's smart, since she's in Ravenclaw, but in that way that requires abstract thinking. It sort of makes her an oddball, but then consider just how odd everything is in the Potterverse. I'd say she adjusted quite well.

 

What really stands out about her is that she's pure. What you see with her is what you get. She's not weird because she's a rebel without a cause. She just is. She's being true to herself, and she's true to others. She trusts her friends and follows them when they have faith in their convictions. She could belong in Gryffindor because she's actually quite brave. It's just not as obvious.

 

But perhaps my favorite thing about Luna is that she's understanding and never really judges other people. It's something I strongly value in myself and others, and the world would be a better place if more people were like her.

IMO, I liked the Luna from the books better than the one from the movie, but probably because they're able to delve more into her character that way. And she is one of the few characters in that universe who doesn't have a bias towards anyone. So it's a deserving spot on your list for sure. :)

 

(Although in the movie I was glad to see that she and Neville got together.)

:kaukau: Yeah, I fistpumped when she and Neville got together. I mean, forget what J.K. Rowling's official story about their future was. I really liked this and it was cool to see that someone in that universe liked her. It's also cool that Harry asked her out as his date to the Slug Club party, personally. It just shows that he knows what true cool really is, deep down inside.

 

You're right, though. The books went into much more detail and could characterize her much more. They still got a good actress for her, though. So I sort of work from both sources.

Which, of course, is why he ended up marrying Ginny instead.

 

In all seriousness, I agree that Luna is a good character. Definitely one of my favorite HP characters.

Seriously, He was Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived, the Boy Who Rescued Hogwards from the Basilisk, Youngest Quidditch Player, Seeker, Quidditch Captain, Triwizard Champion, Leader of Dumbledore's Army, The Boy Who Lived Again, The Boy Who Lived Yet Again, and the best caster of the Patronus around. Asides from Slytherin girls, he could have anyone he liked.

I was just joking around. Perhaps I should have made that clearer. I don't care who Harry got to be with, really. Not a shipper.
