Further Reviewing of La La Land

Jean Valjean

:kaukau: I watched it for a third time, this time with my family. Right as the credits were rolling, one of them turned to me and started complaining about the ending. So it wasn't just me! Yeah, I was really frustrated with the ending. It didn't make me happy like the end of the movie (although it was brilliantly executed on a musical level). We both ranted for a while about it, and it felt good.

Mia ended up with some guy who didn't seem to be passionate about anything in particular, and he reminded me of the guy that she left for Sebastian earlier in the film. It's not that he seemed like a bad person or anything, and in fact he seemed quite stable, but he didn't seem like the type of person that she would have been happy with. I wanted her to end up with Sebastian! I mean, they had a whole movie together and a soon-to-bee iconic love theme! All of that was for nothing? She compromised and married someone who was dull but stable? I don't know, I'm just not happy for her. Also, Sebastian ultimately did what she wanted him to do by pursuing his dream while also changing the name of his restaurant to Seb's and locating his business on a more popular venue. He did it all, and helped her achieve her dream as well, and...they just part ways and never talk to each other again? Sad face...
