Oh I finally get this entry!

I thought Ishtar was like some guy whose birthday it was today!

Naw, I just started saying Happy Ishtar instead of Happy Easter. :)

You are aware, I hope, that Ishtar is the Sumerian goddess of love?

Though, Easter probably was originally a festival of the goddes Ostara (or Eostre), which is where the name comes from. And the rabbits and eggs, probably.

The way I heard it (but you probably know better), is that Ishtar was the Babalonian goddess of fertility, and she turned a bird (or something) into a egg laying rabbit to prove her divinity.

Dunno.

Yeah. That's not it. "Easter" comes from the goddess Eostre (spelled Ostara elsewhere), a germanic goddess of the dawn. Her festival was held in springtime and was, as with all celebrations of Spring, connected to rebirth and fertility, hence the eggs.

As far as I've heard, no one knows exactly where the rabbits came from. However, they're also connected with spring celebrations. Fertility and all that.
