A Peculiar Yet Very Nice Dream

Posted by Nukaya , in BZPower and LEGO, Life May 18 2009 · 60 views
dream, sign language
So I had a dream like a month back that I was at EW's house for some reason (though I don't know how I got there) and we were hanging out and then Tarik, Roa, ChocolateFrogs, Lady K, VF, and a bunch of other BZPers showed up out of the blue and we had a spontaneous party. And it was really out of the blue: as I recall, we were sitting there and people pretty much apparated into the room.

I forgot about that dream and I just randomly remembered it and I thought you all should know, because it was a good dream, until I woke up and was like "Dang it!"

In other news, I am absolutey loathing my lack of proper knowledge of ASL grammar. Translating songs sucks sometimes, especially when you don't want the literal English-to-ASL translation. As gorgeous as they can make songs and poetry and daily conversation, there are too many idioms in the English language that are a living nightmare when it comes to translating.

Spring Fling And Centrevol

Basically yesterday went like this:

I go to the radio station at like 8:45ish and I'm doing my show and I'm there and it's going great, and I'm finding awesome music and around 11, Brian, our station manager calls me: "Hey, Maddison, there's a band coming in and I'm interviewing them, so I'm kicking you off the air an half an hour early."

Except, Brian didn't know what time they were coming and I just ended playing stuff until they got there, so it was pretty much the full time anyway. So, they (the band, Centrevol) finally show up and we're all in the studio, which consists of Peter, Kai, Jon, Nate, plus Peter's wife, plus me and Brian, and it's putting the place on the verge of squished because there's extra microphones and wires and things going everywhere. Anyways, Brian's still setting stuff up and I was playing one of the songs off of their promo cd, which is all fine and dandy until I go on the air and proceed to say:

"So, that last song was from Centr-uhm, ok guys, I'm sorry, but is it "Center-val"? How do you pronounce it? Oh jeez, I'm so sorry. Center-vol? Argh. Anyways, uhm, yeah that was their song off their newest album and they're going to be here today playing on campus...."

Now this probably wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the fact that they filmed the entire thing to put on their website. But, they were super nice and their interview with Brian went great, and we all headed over to the Spring Fling. Over at the event, they had a velcro wall, gyroscope thing, water slide, snocones, volley tournament, food, and frisbee spin art. And, of course Centrevol. I think their concert went pretty well, even though a lot of people were still just wandering around and playing volleyball, but they sounded awesome. At one point, Nate also yelled for me to pick a number to choose their next song, and then proceeded to inform everyone in the area of the college radio station and how awesome it is and how everyone needs to listen to my show. And while I'm standing there unable to decide to be completely mortified or flattered, it prompts my friend to ask "are you their groupie or something?", which caused me to completely facepalm and make a vain attempt to explain that no, I was not and that this is what I get for hanging around the studio during their interview.

I gave them an Heart in Oregon sticker to put on their van after Kai said my Heart in Oregon shirt was cool. After several attempts to convince me to go with them to Portland, their next stop in the tour, we all said our goodbyes and they drove away while I wandered back to my dorm to deal with a sunburn, photo editing, and some last-minute homework (and believe me, I was ready to just hop in the van with them and go to Portland and then somehow get back to La Grande at a later date. I so want school to be over with right now). It was an unusually great Friday.

Also, this quote made me giggle when I heard it today:

"And please eat more chocolate and please listen to more Coldplay." -Chris Martin

Hey, you don't know this yet, but Centrevol is going to try to get famous and then break up. Sorry about that.-FN

R. A.

R.A., college
My mother does not seem to realize that even though she wants me to take a job as a Resident Assistant next year at my college due to the financial benefits of not having to pay for housing or a meal plan for next year, that if I were take the job next year I would most likely completely lose it with being an R.A., the track team, everything that goes along with being an art major, and the rest of my life all clamoring for attention at the same time.

Though, I do now see why you never let me take dance classes as a child. Good move on your part. This class bites.

You weren't an RA. It was a good decision.-FN

My Entire Understanding Of Lord Of The Rings

Lord of the Rings, LOTR

Which I realized after I read this comment. I don't even know how accurate my perception of the LotR plot even is.

Yeah....slightly....well, not really depressing, but more of showing my lack of movie experience in the last ten or so years.

You still haven't seen it. Maybe FFN will.-FN

The Flu

swine flu, is silly and 1 more...
On another site, a friend pointed this out: 141 out of 300,000,000 Americans have gotten swine flu, but 36,000 people die every year from REGULAR flu.

Hey media. LOOK. Something contrary to the mass hysteria you're trying to blend up!

Wait....how exactly does one blend up mass hysteria? Is there a recipe for that? "Hi, I'd like a mass hysteria shake with a side of fries." "Ok, that'll be 4.99 at the window. Would you like to supersize that mass hysteria for twenty-three cents more?"

Yes, that is exactly how you make it.-FN

Don't Ever Do This.....

Posted by Nukaya , in Life, Track and sports Apr 20 2009 · 127 views
heat exhaustion bites
Don't get heat exhaustion. It sucks. I had it today, almost passed out until a couple of friends ran to get a physical trainer. Then I ended up spending three hours in the physical trainer's room because I was so messed up and kept starting to get better then getting worse again, and they were worried that if I left, I'd end up passing out somewhere and no one would be able to help me. I'm still kind of dizzy. Not a good day....

So my mom called me and told me that Les Sarnoff passed away from cancer today.

Thank you for everything you did, Les. I'll miss hearing you on the radio.

Radio!

Posted by Nukaya , in Life Apr 17 2009 · 89 views
college, radio, dj
I am currently djing it up from 9-12 at 91.7 KEOL, the radio station at my college.

First time on the air as an actual dj! Woo!

Yeah, I'm kind of stoked. :D

.....

But wait! There's more. Why on earth would I ever want to get involved on the radio in the first place?

Les Sarnoff, a dj at Kink FM, a station in Portland is pretty much my reason. I grew up listening to him every morning as little kid. Whenever I was eating breakfast and getting ready for the day or my parents were driving me and my brother to school, that was the station we listened to. He's also extremely involved in the community and from what I've heard, he's a really nice guy to boot. Plus, he has like the best voice ever. It's just so positive and optimistic. I remember listening to him on 9/11 as he was describing what was going on in NY, and it was almost like he was saying "Hey, everything is going to be okay. You'll see" despite the fact that such a terrible thing was occurring.

The other djs at the station are quite cool as well (though if you ask my dad his opinion, he'll likely go on a rant about how they all talk too much about pointless topics) and even when I would go listen to other local stations, I always seemed to end up wandering back to Kink, and eventually back to Les in the mornings.

Spontaneousisity

Yep, that's right. I'm making up words *cough*likeusual*cough*.

Spontaneous random acts like someone buying you premier membership are really quite nice. Just sort of brightens the day, makes things a bit better.

Now to figure out how all these buttons work....
