Frustrated, She Poured The Paint Again

(30"x40", charcoal on paper)

My final for Drawing II was to create an image with deep space and a figure, and wow, I think the Chris Van Allsburg influence really showed in this one. I kind of want to start doing more drawings (or maybe even paintings) based off of one sentence that would also serve as the title, like in his book The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. The problem is making up creative single sentences that could give me enough to work with (because the one I made up for this one isn't that great in my opinion....)

I'm considering submitting this one our school's art publication OregonEast, and to the student show at the end year. I'm thinking about submitting some of my paintings as well, but I'm not sure which. Out of all the art that I've made in the past school year, only this drawing and this painting feel truly finished in both a visual and emotional sense.

And, OH MY GOSH. Pandora Radio: Disney station. Why was it not in my life before this. I think my premier membership may be about to run out in the next few days, so I need to find that one page that has the info about where to send money or get a paypal account (plus, I'll need it to pay for BrickFair anyway....).

Oh! And don't forget: Pimp my Blog 2 is still in full swing. The entries so far are pretty darn neat, and I figure I may as well continue to promote this here because I don't think anyone actually remembers me going on the last BZPowercast to talk about the contest. It was a tad....overshadowed by much more fantastical things, but that's ok.

(and 118 days until BrickFair!!!)

Whoa. The shading, the textures and the light reflections are, well, professionally made.

The angle is very artistic, too.

The rest can't be put into words. Fantastic work.

I don't know who Chris Van Allsburg is, but he's awesome. I'm so glad you got together with him in your head to make this incredible work of art.

Oh yeah, the Powercast. Shoot, I forgot to listen to that. *goes to listen*

A very impressive drawing. I noticed its you and your painting set-up. :P

To nit pick though, I can only count four fingers on your left hand...

Yeah, foreshortening kind of does that....and shrinking the image down so much probably didn't help the clarity much either. But, thank you! :)

But people only have four fingers?

I get so jealous when I view your paintings/drawings, but they are oh so amazing. You'll have to give me some tips sometime.

Also, Pandora. <3

I gotta hurry up and get my Pimp My Blog entry set...

Wow, just wow! That charcoal on paper is simply amazing. We had nothing like that turned in for our Drawing I class, I guess the number I or II makes a difference! This is the first time I have seen this type of artwork from you (besides that coke can you showed me), but I think both this drawing and that painting would work well for the gallery/artshowthingy. I think these two might work well for the show too: This & This

The contours and detail of your self portrait is... breathtaking.

When you did this drawing you based it off a sentence?

I'm going to be honest.

At first I thought that was a Sepia Toned Photograph.

I'm still not sure which idea I like more.

I noticed that as well....it kind of does look like a sepia toned photo. The lighting in the hall I took the photo of the piece in was really horrid, and I tried to correct it during editing, but it just wasn't working.

Oh, sorry, I just found the fifth. I thought the left-index finger was actually the thumb, but that's actually underneath the cup, right?

-K

Lol. That is correct.
