Or maybe the person you were talking to was saying it wrong. I hear that happens, especially in the middle of the country.

As someone coming from the New York City area, I can safely say that the pronunciation is, 'bay-gel,' with a hard 'g' like in 'seagull.'

I only know of two ways to say bagel: as though it has one G, which is the correct way (BAY-gull) or if it has two Gs, which is completely wrong (BAG-gull).

It is an unforgivable crime against the English language to pronounce it the second way. :uhuh:

Don't even get me started on people who can't say "milk" properly...

Yeah, I think I recall you saying "bag-ul"...

:P

Thing is, an episode of Community addressed this "issue" with one of its characters one episode, so I just let it go.

as a northeastern Ohioan I too can confirm that it is pronounced "bay-gul" with a hard g

that's not stopping me from imagining you pronouncing it as "boggle" though XP

STOP PRONOUNCING IT AND EAT IT.

I don't have a bagel though, and I didn't have one yesterday, so I can't. Sorry.

It's okay. :) Sorry for yelling.
