In Light of Recent Events

It just occured to me that 2009, the last year in which I was really active on BZPower, was over five years ago now. It seems like yesteday, but when I think about how much has happened in my personal life since then, it seems so surreal.

But anyways, I'm happy that BIONICLE is coming back. I doubt I'll buy any of the sets or follow the story very closely, but I'll definitely be keeping tabs on it for sure.

And I'm happy to think what this means for BZPower too. BZP was really the first real "forum" that I joined way back when I was 13, and I have a lot of nostalgia invested in this place. It's been kind of sad to see it limping along without BIONICLE. I really hope this new revival will make it a fun place to hang out again.

EDIT: I just realized that I basically just said the exact same thing as my previous entry. This is what I get for blogging while running on 4 hours of sleep.

The new members will all be younger than we are.

They will have yet to go through difficult life experiences and may well be immature. BZP will be like the olden days, only with a ton of old members complaining that things are different and "how dare LEGO tamper with our nostalgia?!"

So, yeah, enjoy the quiet-peace while it certain-stays. (They better freaking bring back tree speak. If not, I shall complain and moan!)

It was already like this in the olden days. Remember how outraged some people were when it was revealed that Mata Nui was a giant robot? Even though had been planned from the start, for some people it was simply unfaithful to the expectations that the early BIONICLE storyline had fostered.

Honestly, I think newer members will be a great asset to this community, as they will provide us grumpy old fans with a healthy dose of perspective. I remember back in the day people would belittle younger fans for tainting the BIONICLE sets with their love of shooting functions and sets that favored articulation over moving-parts functions. But it's sometimes harder to hate a group of fans when they're staring you right in the face and the earnestness of their love for the brand is readily apparent.

Will some of the new fans be immature? Of course — but still, they will have their own opinions to bring to the table, and without admitting those sorts of new opinions into discussion of the new BIONICLE, the community's overall perspective would be incredibly skewed.

Le gasp! Someone is saying things that compromise my words! Diabolical... =P. (Yeah, I am totally joking here because I suck at sarcasric banter).

Yeah, I guess the first run did last ten years. To be honest, I fell off BZP in the later years of BIONICLE, so I probably missed a ton of that stuff (I actually don't remember that thing you said). Also, if any toa in the future is ever stripped of a super awesome toa tool to be replaced by another dime-a-dozen blaster piece, I will flip a table. Double flip of it's the green hero because personal bias.
