Forum Mentors

Please listen to us. If we state a topic is breaking the rules, please do not continue to post in the topic. Just because we're not a Forum Assistant or General Moderator or an Admin doesn't mean that you shouldn't respect us. We have a lot of responsibility because unlike a Forum Assistant or even a Forum Leader, we're responsible for some 40,000 members and all of the forums. Everything from NMQ&A to COT is our responsibility. If you think that isn't a heavy mantle to bear, allow me to inform you that you're wrong. It's a lot of responsibility. It's a lot of stress.

All we ask is that you listen to us. Is it really that hard?

He's right folks, no matter the level of staff, all staff members should be treated with respect and you need to listen to them, even if you don't agree with them.

Except news reporters, they don't count (j/k guys, we still love you).

I hear you. I may be just a member, but it still annoys me when people continue to post in topics after it is stated that its breaking the rules. I try not to do this. :)

Such a heavily load brings me to wonder why there aren't more Forum Mentors. :| I mean, a group of maybe ten members can't exactly be quite as efficient as, say, twenty. But I guess the 'too many staff' rule applies there.

I'm actually kind of curious as to what abilities you possess.

Not trying to be impertinent, or even incite a riot, I've just been wondering what Moderator powers Forum Mentors possess. I mean, I can understand if the extent of your power is saying "not cool bro. stop posting."

...

Gah, there's really no good way to word that. >.<

Forum Mentors, from my understand, basically are told to do exactly that; tell people they're breaking the rules, and help new members out. They don't have any special powers, they just get a job where no one really takes them seriously. They're on par with the Reference Keepers in terms of power, except the Reference Keepers get a pretty sweet job, that is, pretty much nothing to do. :P (no offense to the RK, it's just you guys don't honestly have much to do, beyond updating the EU and stuff) Forum Mentors get the pleasure of working their heads off for the betterment of the community.

FMs can hide and approve posts in all forums.

Right, they are the staff group mainly responsible for the approval of posts by new members. They are also the main group responsible for answering questions about the forum and such.

They can also fly and shoot laser out of their eyes, don't forget that

The only solution I can think of is to make FM's able to close topics, but then there wouldn't really be a need for FA's. :( A simple post saying to stop won't stop newer members who may not know what FM's are or even that they exist.

That sounds a lot more like a Global Moderator, just without the post editing function. :P And it would also just make a bigger load for them. They have a big enough job as is.
