i can't tell if you're joking or if people actually are arbitrarily making certain minifigures ridiculously expensive

Price-fixing? I figure it's because of supply and demand, as Octodad posted. Maybe some price-fixing goes on at the convention vendors, but on Bricklink there are better chances of something going down because of more quantity available, otherwise everyone would have a specific fig at the same price.

Well, usually when you say "you couldn't be more wrong" or any variation of it to me, you're honestly disagreeing with me

Well, while the set that Luna came in (Hogwarts Express... V3?)  had a great collection of minifigures for somebody beginning a Harry Potter collection, Luna was the only exclusive fig.  (Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Malfoy appeared elsewhere, and their outfits here weren't that unique either.)  Luna, on the other hand, was very specialized and she never appeared anywhere else.  And since that set was, what, $70-80, it makes sense that she'd have a high price tag.

 

If it was still available I'd just say suck it up and buy the whole thing, which is what I did... but I guess that's not really an option now?

 

Yeah, right now the cheapest Hogwarts Express that includes the minifigures is over 132 dollars, which is almost twice what it originally sold for. I'm better off waiting for a thirty dollar minifigure to be more in my budget.
