The Smashing Pumpkins

I've just started listening to this band, and I really like them.

My favourite songs are 1979 and Doomsday Clock.

YES.

Absolutely positively LOVE this band. I have their full studio album discography, some of the singles and EPs, and a couple T-shirts.. love love love love love the Pumpkins. Unfortunately they sort of went downhill after Adore, but still. There are a few gems in their later stuff.

Check out the album Gish, it's my favorite. Siamese Dream is often considered their best, but I like Gish more because it has a raw, energetic feel to it. Excellent.

I've listened to a few song off of Gish, and they are fantastic! Thanks Laughin' Man!

If you liked Gish, Siamese Dream is also a must. I'd also recommend Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, but.. I don't know. It's a great album overall, one of their best, but the scope of it is just insane. Two discs, 28 songs. It's a tiring listen, and aside from the singles most of the songs (while good) are difficult to get into and also not really all that enjoyable when listened to separate from the rest of the album. Mellon Collie is flawed for this reason; they wanted it to be their epic masterpiece and just ended up taking that too far. It's too long, too experimental, and a bit too eclectic.

Mellon Collie is, however, their last above-average album in my opinion. Adore was alright, but I didn't really like the goth-tinged electronic style they were going for. I like a couple songs from it, like "Ava Adore", but as a whole I recommend passing on it or at least saving it for last.

Machina and Machina II are both fairly average in my opinion, I say pass.

And Zeitgeist was their best album since Mellon Collie IMO, if only because it was a slight return-to-form - overall, though, it was a bit too mainstream and average, though "Doomsday Clock" and a few others were good.
