Tonight's Closing Thoughts #454

ponies
So I was involved in brony drama tonight.
Basically, someone created a topic called "Let's Stop Hasbro from Messing with Our Ponies" (which they later changed to "DHX's Ponies"). On the inside was a link to a petition that needed 2 million signatures before he'd send it to Hasbro. He also said "This could save Derpy, let the show target us, or let the show's writers write based on creativity rather than greed, and much more!". So naturally everyone started pointing out what was wrong with this.

Glorious. Nothing solves a fiasco better than an internet petition by fans with excessive demands and a limited grasp of how entertainment media actually functions.

I find the "let the show target us" point most ludicrous. The show has consistently been written for a diverse audience, but with an emphasis on young girls. It's just silly to see the petition trying to get the show back to its roots and simultaneously trying to steer it wildly off course from its original purpose.
