I hate how the search bar will autofill and then you end up searching for something completely unrelated to what you were trying to search for initially. Do you know if there's a way to stop it from doing that?

No, I don't think he's talking about Chrome's "omnibar". More likely the auto-filling searchbar on Google's website. (It might not work like that for you if you've disabled Google Instant in the settings, or if it has determined that your connection is too slow for it to function properly)
