some of them are really creative and interesting, but the bulk of the ones I've heard, especially the popular ones, are incredibly bland and only serve to rip off Meshuggah endlessly while contributing nothing of value to the genre

Yeah. I read a comment someone posted that said something like "Djent is the dubstep of metal, you have to dig to find the good stuff." I'd say that pretty much sums it up.
