The Annoyance Of Writing Fanfiction

When you use an official character, yet you inevitably butcher their character for the simple reason that their character is utterly foriegn to you. I think I'm going to say 'screw this, I'm mutating this character's character.' Much easier.

I understand entirely. Makes fanfiction, especially for contests, more difficult to write.

No-one understands a character better than his/her/its creator.

:kaukau: Yeah, I know what Makuta of Oz means, although at the same time I think any good author would appreciate that people like the character enough that they want to write about him or her, regardless of what they do with them. Because ultimately, one of the goals of writers is that there needs to be a point where their characters are no longer their characters and are shared, lent to the reader so that they can be our characters.

It's one of the frustrations that I have in writing some of my own original stuff here on BZPower, since ultimately they're seen as "Kraggh's guys" and I don't feel that readers have really connected with the characters in any way yet. There was a moment of supreme happiness several years ago when someone wanted to use a couple of comedy characters of mine for his own, though.

Your Honor,

Emperor Kraggh
