Question About Pakari

Daiker

Uh, I'm probably gonna sound pretty noobish, but I just don't want to post an entire topic for a simple question in S&T

The Pakari is the mask of strength. Kakama is the mask of speed. If a Pakari wielder were to use his mask powers on his legs, wouldn't it be practically the same as using a Kakama?

I know there's probably some crucial fact that I'm missing that answers my question.

Strength and speed are really two different things. I might be able to lift over two hundred pounds with my legs, but I can't run like an Olympic sprinter, because power does not translate into speed. Now, a Pakari user might be able to jump a fair distance ...

Some masks can't be used on the wearer. The Matatu and the Mask of Healing are two masks that come to mind that cannot be used by the Toa who wields it.

EDIT: Dangit, it takes me a minute to type out this post and I get ninja'd by a post that's not even a full sentence. :P

I'm thinking more like the increased strength in the legs would allow for a greater speed, as the legs are strong enough to run very fast.

The Pakari may very well provide a sort of "extra kick" to efforts against external objects done by the user but not necessarily adjust the actual physiology of the user. That is, you could apply extra force to a boulder, but not extra force to your own muscles (since without an adjustment in mass they probably couldn't take the strain). Think force = mass * acceleration; it's possible that with the Pakari it becomes force = mass * acceleration * Pakari effect or something like that.

Alternatively, once we throw physics out the window (always a good idea when dealing with Bionicle), we can go with your pick of "it's not one of the effects of the mask" or "because Pohatu and Onua were similar enough already, dagnabbit."

Think of the Pakari like the Thing or the Hulk. They are strong and faster than the average person, but they are not fast like the Flash or someone like that. Also, distance runners are super fit and their muscles are really toned, but they are not beefy strong, like throwers or those guys in strong-man competitions. It's a different type of strength and fitness.

According to BS01, the Kakama can bring the user to speeds "far faster than the eye can follow". No matter how much strength you have it wouldn't give you the ability to move super fast like that.
