After playing through most of Wind Waker HD, I'm inclined to agree.

Say, speaking of Wind Waker Link, are Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks any good? I've been putting those off until after playing Wind Waker, so I figure they're next on my list.

Let's look at this rationally.

Skyward Sword Link had a personal relationship with a goddess, reunited humans and the surface races, and had the Beetle.

Minish Cap Link has Ezlo but nothing particularly epic.  I would say he wins Cutest Link.

The Four Swords Links are, well, fourfold, so that's cool?  I wouldn't say that earns them too many points towards "Best Link," though.

OoT/MM Link has possibly the most pivotal influence of all the Links (barring Skyward Sword, since he started this whole Demise thing).  He saved Hyrule, helped seal away evil for ages in two timelines, and seperately saved the world of Termina in another timeline.  He also gained powers of transformation and the power of putting up with Navi.  I'd award him Most Hardcore Link.

I fail to see what Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass Link has that can top that.  Sailing isn't as epic as flying on a Loftwing, his abilities are nifty but not greater than those of other Links, and paving the way for New Hyrule doesn't have the same kind of cosmic importance which other Links displayed in SS, OoT, MM or TP.  Maybe award him Most Touching Link for his sister, grandma, and final cutscene?

Spirit Tracks Link always struck me as the most down-to-earth.  He drives a train, and while the world collapses around other Links, this Link operates within a pretty functional world of Hyrule.

ALttP, Link's Awakening, and the Oracle games all share the same Link.  This Link should be commended for having the most prolific career.  Still, beyond a little dimension-hopping it's mostly standard, non-cosmic save-the-kingdom-with-a-sword-and-some-tools action--or, worse yet, just a dream.  Commendable but not unique.

Link Between Worlds Link pales in comparison to his older counterpart.

Zelda and Zelda II had the most independent Link.  LoZ has almost no side-questing, it was a solo affair!  Otherwise, nothing particularly superlative, though.

Twilight Princess Link put up with being a dog.  Also Midna.

For Swords Links were also fourfold.  Been there, done that.

So, WW Link is far from the worst Link in any area, but holistically, he's pretty middle-of-the-pack.

Sailing is DEFINITELY more epic than flying a Loftwing, having loved the former and hated the latter. Not to mention that the ultimate defeat of Ganon for all time ought to get him major points.

I just got the game yesterday. that's how amazing WW link is.

Phantom hourglass and spirit tracks aren't bad. I never actually got around to beating spirit tracks, but I was on the last boss fight.

I think PH would have left a bigger impression on me if I had played WW first.

Gameplay-wise, yeah, sailing is 1,000% better.  It was way more interesting and had better mechanics and atmosphere.  In-universe, though, Loftwing wins.

Spirit Tracks Princess Zelda is best Princess Zelda.

Absolutely.  With Tetra in second place.

I think that, if they'd used the Loftwing for more, it would have been a lot better. Most of the time it felt kinda like a token "yeah it still exists" experience when you just wanted to travel from zone to zone. It would have been really fun if you could have flown the Loftwing around the surface in a more open-world way. I get why you can't (gameplay breaking...), but it would have been a lot neater. On top of that, the boat wins over the bird because you can actually do effective combat on it via the canon and your bow (same reason TP Epona is epic, you can actually fight on her).

WW Link is definitely one of the better Links as far as personality goes. Him, TP Link and SS Link are great in that.

Excuse me, sir, but that game was the only Zelda title where I could play with up to three friends and set each other on fire with the fire rod.

How is that not noteworthy, I ask you?
