"Next Gen"

-A screenshot of something someone at Microsoft actually said.

So either A: we aren't considering the Wii U "Next Gen" (Whatever that means), B: They forgot about the Wii U, or C: "Delivering", meaning actually launching it. as apposed to having hardware emulation built into the system. Like the Wii U. (I like my Wii U)

Plus we're still using the term "Next Gen" almost two years into the console's life cycle.

If it's an issue of lack of power then one has to wonder why Halo 5 lacks split screen.

There's just a lot of things that annoy me in this screenshot.

Carry on.

this console generation is barren anyway. sony and microsoft both screwed the pooch with too many unnecessary features and not enough games, and developers are still racing to prove that stuff they run on the new hardware wasn't better served on a PS3 or 360. the only thing that's come close to a "next-gen experience" is bloodborne, and even the character models on bloodborne look like PS2 era junk

people think fallout 4 is gonna be what delivers, but really, does anyone remember how bethesda screwed skyrim for the ps4 time and time again? does anyone think that as soon as the creation kit drops, the creative minds aren't gonna be flocking to PC anyway?

really, the question is why people are still jonesing for backwards compatibility after two years of the PS4 and xbone. there's one simple answer, and when you say it out loud it doesn't bode well for sony and microsoft atm

i'm leaving the wii u out of this because i haven't done a lot of research into it. this goes mainly for the people thatstill consider playstations and xboxes the best buy, even with game libraries as barren as games like GTA V and Watch Dogs of interesting things to do

Wii U's biggest problem is the battery life. The games are reasonably good.

@ Ghidora: Wii u's Biggest problem is not it's battery life. (I've never had an issue with it honestly, and I think I've charged my pro controller twice since I bought it) It's biggest problem is having almost no mainstream 3rd party games.

I can't really argue about there being no games, I pretty much bought an Xbox One for Halo.

What is a "Next Gen Experience"? I'm wondering if there might be a b it of rose tinted glasses involved in how you remember the PS2. The PS2 looks awful on my current setup. I think I've messed with the settings enough so it's now tolerable at best. And I think the models are supposed to look like that. it's kind of a gruesome, disgusting game from what I've played of it. (I don't have a PS4)

As far as I know Xbox one is supporting Modding with Fallout 4. It still seems like something best done on a PC but I guess We'll see.

Wanting backwards comparability on a system doesn't really mean it doesn't have any games. There are tons of games on PC but I'd still be miffed if I lost the ability to complete Half-Life. (I'll do it one of these days.) Though I guess that's one of the nice things about pc is that it's more gradual instead of just one day all your games are suddenly outdated.

Also: Why is your post "Invisible"?

i think you missed the point of what i meant by the PS2 era graphics on bloodborne - they do look terrible, especially for a game in 2015 that otherwise looks astounding when it comes to textures and graphics. the souls series in general is bad with character models, but for a game as hyped on its graphics as bloodborne, it's really not defensible

i think it's sony that's supporting fallout 4 console modding, but you might be right on that. i haven't followed it too closely.

as for wanting backwards compatibility, my point on that was more towards what we agreed on in the first place - there really are no games at the moment that justify buying next gen hardware, except the old exclusives like halo. do you know anyone who bought an xbox one just for destiny? or a ps4 for bloodborne? you'd have to be insane. so of course everyone is going to want to play their old, functional, fun last-gen console games on their new hardware, because there's nothing else to do with the new hardware. it's just like how we have a serious lack of new IPs coming out in gaming - more stagnation instead of forcibly moving things forward

lastly, my post is whited out because of the character i based my latest name change on being a mute. figured it was a little gimmick i'd stick with for the duration of the change

Microsoft made a pretty big deal about mods being on the one at E3. But either way, that's a game I'd probably be getting on PC if and when I do.

though, to be fair, while there aren't any games right now that would make me buy a console, there are some promising ones on the horizon (Not for Wii U but whatever). Scalebound is, as far as I'm concerned, worth the new console. Recore is something I'm keeping an eye on as well. And if I was getting a PS4 I would definitely be watching Nier like a hawk. (Platinum Games is one of my favorites.) The argument that the Wii U has no games is kind of moot to me as there are more games I wanted for it then both the others combined by a severe margin.

I don't know anyone who bought a system for those games in particular (If your deciding factor was Destiny you shouldn't get it on Xbox One, bungee is currently giving it a nice middle finger.) But I know someone who is considering a One for Gears of War.

I think saying there's nothing to do on the new hardware is a bit extreme. Granted I love Halo to death so that's worth noting.

There are quite a few new IP's that I think don't come to mind when factoring into buying a console. off the top of my head there are: Shovel Knight, Mark of the Ninja, Bastion, Transistor, Splatoon, Wonderful 101, and like, a whole bunch of others. and games like that don't generally sell as well, it's a lot safer to build a franchise and it generally works well for companies as recognizable names sell well.
