I Don't Even (Recap 02)

Recap 02: I Don’t Even
This week, this week... was pretty ordinary, but some interesting stuff did happen. Actually, I’m lying, it was a pretty abnormal week.
My mother is insisting that my brother and I see a councillor (is that the right councillor, or should it be counsellor? I don’t even know) because my brother and I got into a physical skirmish on Tuesday night. He’s a bit bigger than me and I won’t go into details, but I say “skirmish” and not “fight” because victory was had by one of us in about thirty seconds. Separate councillors (counsellors?), I think. I keep telling her no, partly because I don’t ever want  to step into one of those places again and partly because I’ve just got too much on my plate IRL to even consider trying to make room for a councillor (I should just google it....).
I feel like I should probably be feeling a lot worse than I do at the incident, since my brother seems to be suffering more than me (although we’re also both very different in personality, so it could just be coping differences?). I know that I’m a master of internalizing my emotions, but even still, I should feel more beat up about this? Or maybe everyone else is just blowing the incident out of proportion (although seriously why would I be the only one treating it normally)? I do feel like I should feel worse, but... meh. I’m fairly certain that I’m pretty messed up, but at least that would mean that I’m interesting to learn about, which means more readers?
Moving on!
I work at a nearby YMCA center as one of the youth program instructors, and the head of our aquatic division was recently announced to be taking control of the youth division as well (that’s a lot of work and I admire the ability to shoulder it). Things are already improving; she’s set up an extremely effective communication binder for us to use when we need shift coverage, and I have already taken advantage of it to claim more hours for myself. Our aquatics division is apparently the best in the region (or province? It was one of them), and since she’s organizing the youth division the same way, I have high hopes. It certainly feels more organized than with our last two heads.
One thing I’ve noticed in my classes for this session is that I have a lot of autistic kids in my classes (if my terminology offends you here, I apologize – I’ve looked all over online and people seem to literally be divided in two regarding “autistic person” and “person with autism”), and I’m actually kind of excited because I will freely admit that I’m terrible with this stuff (especially when parents and authority figures are around because then I’m constantly wondering if I’m doing something wrong?). I usually treat them like I would anyone else unless their parents specifically request something different, but this session will be huge for making it just another part of my day.
It’s also got me thinking about my job this summer, because they have “one on one” campers (campers with some sort of special needs, basically), and I’m pretty terrible at individual interactions at the best of times, and having to spend almost twenty-four hours a day with the same person for a week is like something out of  a nightmare for me (ESPECIALLY if they talk a lot because I’m sorry I just can’t keep up a constant conversation).
And then from camp we go back to my prom and graduation. You see, the camp is about four hours away from where I live. Graduation and prom land directly in the middle of my training week. Which means I need to find a ride up to the camp to start the week, find another ride back home for both events, then a third ride back up to camp. It’s going to be a nightmare to organize. Honestly, if the graduation and prom could just be one week earlier, all of my problems would be solved... le sigh.
We’re starting to hit the hardcore study mode for the IB exams, which I believe are starting in the first week of May? We’ve been reviewing material since March for Biology, and now we’ve hit the end of the road for our IB Math as well. Just one more test and then we’ll be onto the practice exams. In English we’re to finish reading our final play and then reviewing begins, so I’ll probably be done learning new things by the end of next week. The exams are staggered throughout the first three weeks of May, and after that I’m technically done high school (although I still need to attend and participate in the bogus activities our teachers are forced to come up with, since the board dislikes us finishing a month early... stupid board). Woohoo.
And going back full circle to the YMCA, where I have to help two of our newest staff members with the planning and running of a class on Saturday mornings for the first three weeks to make sure they know what they’re doing. I’m not sure why I need to do that for three weeks, but today I barely arrived in time because I was so exhausted (yay continuing insomnia and growing caffeine (addiction/dependence/they’re the same thing so be quiet).
I don’t believe I did anything of terrible awesomeness this week, so unfortunately I’m gonna have to leave my point total where it is. Maybe I’ll do this again next week or maybe you’ll all wait for two weeks or maybe never again, because really how interesting can my life be?

Smash Files 31: The Direct Recap
Five new characters to whip up some profiles for! Oh, goody! We've got a lot of smash files on the way, but first things first: I must recap everything I have learned and am excited about from the direct yesterday.
1. Release Dates
Yes... more than new characters, new moves, and what have you, I was most excited to learn the release dates. I mean windows. Yes, release windows. That they definitely won't delay. Nope. The 3DS version is set to release this summer (bugger, how am I supposed to buy it on the release day) while the Wii U is set for a winter release (presumably late November/early December?). I'm glad that they're staggering the releases; it's easier to spend $40 one month and $60 later than $100 all at once.
2. New Character Announcements
Now we're talking! Five characters in one night? I am a very happy camper, albeit... well, not entirely? I was initially disappointed that Shiek and Zero Suit Samus have their own character slots this time around; while I suppose that this was a precedent set by Link all the way back in Melee, I'd much rather see different characters being represented. That said... the idea has grown on me. Let's do a quick recap of the characters announced here before their profiles:
Posted Image
I've never used Samus (and by extension, Zero Suit) very often, but my interest has been piqued with the rocket boots. If her jump or air combat abilities are enhanced at all, I'll give it a go.
Posted Image
Shiek being split away from Zelda interests me more; I was never good with either form, but I can also (sort of but not really leave me alone) pretend that maybe she's a different character. Some anonymous person from the Legend of Zelda franchise that definitely, absolutely is not Zelda.
Posted Image
I'm not gonna lie; I'm a HUGE fan of Yoshi's redesign for this game. He looks adorable, and turning people into eggs will become even funnier. I always like giving Yoshi a go now and then; I doubt I'll ever use him as one of my mains, but I'm glad he's back (plus, Original 12, minus Jigglypuff because Jigglypuff sucks). But where are Captain Falcon and Ness?
Posted Image
I hated the Pokemon Trainer in Brawl; the optional transformations of Zelda and Samus were one thing, but being forced to play three different characters in a single match always tuckered me out. More often than not I would just use Squirtle anyway. Since I'm not generally a fan of the bigger, heavier characters, I doubt Charizard will see much use from me. I'm glad it's there, though.
Posted Image
Color me super excited! While I may not have enjoyed Pokemon X enough to even move past the sixth gym, the Froakie evolutionary line was my favorite series of starter Pokemon since Generation IV. I'll definitely be sure to give Greninja a go, and maybe I just got another possible character added to my main fighters?
3. Mega Evolutions
Posted Image
So if you haven't heard, both Charizard's and Lucario's mega evolutions will be a part of their final smashes. Will my dreams of Mega Lucario staying for the rest of the fight come true? Probably not. Am I beyond excited that I will at least get to battle as Mega Lucario? Heck yeah I am.
4. Mega Man's Final Smash
Posted Image
If I need to explain this one to you... well, I shouldn't have to explain this one to you.
5. Smash Run
Tie this into the whole "separate modes for separate games" things - this is perfectly suited to the nature of the 3DS and I can't wait to try it out with the abundance of other people around me who will own this game (and surprisingly I am not being sarcastic!).
6. Total Number of Characters So Far?
29 and counting, with 6 newbies and 23 oldies. We're still missing veteran fighters Wario, Ganondorf, R.O.B., Pichu, Mewtwo, Roy, Dr. Mario, Ike, Snake, Metaknight, Mr. Game & Watch, Captain Falcon, Ness, Lucas, Falco, Jigglypuff and Wolf. Those crossed out never returned for Brawl, so don't expect them here.
I expect Wario, Ganondorf, Metaknight, Mr. Game & watch, Captain Falcon, Ness, and Falco will all appear for sure (and Jigglypuff if Nintendo still hates us).
But then, what do I know? I mean, I want Agnes Oblige, but we all know that won't happen. :(

Oh dear...

That many staff members in one place can never be good

I kid, of course. Considering my display name, I will imagine that I was the topic of a heated debate that involved ballistic spaghetti bombs, farm animals, hats, and roughly five crates of chocolate milk. :D

Game suggestions?

Posted by Lucina , in Video Games Apr 06 2014 · 315 views

Whilst playing Bravely Default, I was reminded of how much I enjoyed Dragon Quest IX a few years ago, as well as what little of the SNES version of Chrono Trigger I played before our Wii was moved and I could no longer play it. So I was wondering if you all might be able to offer me some suggestions on the best RPG games for the DS and 3DS that I'm most likely to enjoy, taking the above two games into account.
I do plan on somehow acquiring the DS version of Chrono Trigger eventually, but otherwise I am uncertain as to where I should be headed for RPGs. :P

Seriously, though. Bionifight just proved that getting 98 pages of activity is possible in 2 months. Let's get Outbreak to at least 40 in the time it has!

Since I was a little distracted this week and am just now finishing up the next chapter of Isolation, I figured I'd give you all a scene from the upcoming chapter to tide you over until I publish it.
Orrrr I'm giving you a teaser just to DRIVE YOU MAD WITH SUSPENSE!
“Let’s just put the guns down,” Voltex said. “One of you is a Traitor... that’s fine. We can work past it.”
“The guard,” Pupwa said.
“The guard,” the Le-Matoran repeated. “At the hub of motors, when you met with the Automaton. Do you remember?”
“Yeah,” Voltex said slowly, remembering the irritable Matoran that had nearly refused him entry. “Wasn’t the greatest service I’ve ever received.”
“It was me,” said Pupwa. “I am the guard.”
“You were the... but I thought you were from BZ-Koro...” Voltex said, confused.
The Le-Matoran shook his head. “Was lying – cover story. I work for the White Council for much money, very profitable. Take out targets, hired for Xaeraz to kill.”
“You’re not making any sense,” Voltex said.
“The White Council hired him to kill Xaeraz,” Zakaro translated, his gaze fixed on Pupwa’s.
Pupwa nodded. “Supposed to kill when drawn out, but won’t happen. You do it, Voltex.”
“Wait,” Voltex said, realizing what was about to happen. “Don’t shoot! Don’t shoot each other!”
Before either of the Matoran could fire, the door was slammed open, revealing the familiar form of Voxumo. Voltex sagged in relief, gesturing towards Zakaro and Pupwa. “Thank Tohu you’re here! They’re about to kill each other!”
The Ko-Matoran glanced from Zakaro to Pupwa and then swung the scythe.

You asked for it

Recap 01: You Asked For It
Well, technically I asked, and you responded. But it was a positive response! So here I am. I will thus go over the highlights and downers of my week in chronological order.
But obviously only the interesting stuff. Who wants to hear about silly homework or like, how my hands froze on Thursday?
What was of note this week?
I’ve always been a fan of Sunny D, staunchly ignoring how unhealthy it is because I loved it so much. Unfortunately, it was shattered this week. I tried some and it was too sweet, tasted bad, made my mouth feel dry... childhood ruined.
(Let’s move onto more important things).
As you all know, I asked a girl in my class out to prom this week – in the moment she said yes, but it turned into a “no” the next day. I’m not too worried – if worst comes to worst, I’ll go to the prom alone and it’ll be a little awkward (or a lot, I don’t care to think about it). The way I see it: I asked, I got a definite result, and that is at least one moment of my life that will not forever be a “what if”, because there’s no “what if” to it. So the +1 points still stands.
Coincidentally, I am also tied with said girl for the top mark in our English class. That means the next month is going to be me trying to steamroller through everything to boost my mark up as high as possible, because I have never been so close to the top of a class before and I’d like to take an award home for it this year if at all possible.
My diet this week has consisted of adrenaline and coffee. I think I also ate four muffins on Wednesday that my brother made during his foods class and I did eat dinner today but otherwise I think I should probably be collapsing? Let me just say that adrenaline is overrated and I’d really appreciate it if it would stop for awhile (like, for a long time please).
I’ve been struck down (or awake, rather) by insomnia again. It’s been going on since early last week and I have no idea how long it’ll last; I looked it up and as best I could tell from the jargon, I have the type of insomnia where it’s not a symptom of something worse and you have lots of trouble falling asleep.  I consider four hours to be a splendid night of rest and coffee is my go-to thing in the morning. It seems to strike every couple of months; I’m sure it’ll be gone in a week or two.
And... that’s about it. Those are the most interesting things from my life this week. I’m sure that if I continue this, eventually I’ll get some sort of rhythm or organization to these entries, but for now, that’s all I have to say, so...
