Sail Among the Stars

Actually this is my entry on RvB Episode 4 that I never actually did. =P

So I'm loving the machinima bits- they are far superior to the ones from Season 9 and, for whatever reason, I'm happy they're using Halo 3 again. Reach was just a little too different to be used, I think.

The CGI section was brilliant as always, and continues to blow me away at how far they've progressed in terms of visual quality since Season 9. Also, it was nice to see another big ship.

Now to wait for Episode 5 tomorrow!

Also... Meet the Pyro.

Top 10 - The Gamecube

Posted by Voltex Oblige , in Video Games Jun 22 2012 · 91 views

Aw yeah, let's do this list! Keep in mind once more, these are simply the top ten games on the system I want to play on the Wii U virtual console, as I haven't played any of them before.

Except one.

  • Viewtiful Joe (2003)
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2004) - cheating, but I'll take this game anyway I can.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (2004)
  • Beyond Good & Evil (2003)
  • Peter Jackson's Kind Kong (2005)
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2002)
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (2004)
  • Fire Emblem: Parth of Radiance (2005)
  • Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (2003)
  • Mario Party 5 (2003)
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Wait...)
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
  • Pikmin
  • Pikmin 2
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Mario Party 7
  • Mario Kart: Double-Dash!!
  • Metroid Prime

Top 10 - Gameboy Advance

Posted by Voltex Oblige , in Video Games Jun 20 2012 · 110 views

And today I bring you the Gameboy Advance list.

  • Gunstar Super Heroes (2005)
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (2003)
  • Advance Wars (2001)
  • Wario Land 4 (2001)
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (2005)
  • Metroid: Zero Mission (2004)
  • Mega Man & Bass (2003)
  • Drill Dozer (2006)
  • Fire Emblem (2003)
  • Astro Boy: Omega Factor (2004)
  • Pokemon Emerald (GBA, 2005)

Probably my least-looked forward to list, to be honest. :P GBA is just... I dunno. Plenty of great games for it, sure, but most of these are probably the ones I'd look forward to playing least out of all the games I'm listing. Of note, I almost put the Donkey Kong Country port on here, and the same with the Super Mario World port, before deciding that Astro Boy would be more worth the time.

Top 10 - Nintendo 64

Posted by Voltex Oblige , in Video Games Jun 19 2012 · 145 views

Next to the Gamecube list, this is probably the list I've looked forward to posting most.

  • Super Smash Bros. (1999)
  • Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber (1999)
  • Donkey Kong 64 (1999)
  • Rayman 2: The Great Escape (1999)
  • Mario Kart 64 (1996)
  • Conker's Bad Fur Day (2001)
  • Blast Corps (1997)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (2000)
  • Star Fox 64 (1997)
  • Goldeneye 007 (1997)
  • Paper Mario (2001, Wii VC)
  • Super Mario 64 (1996, Wii VC)
  • Yoshi's Story (1997) - not that this would've EVER made the list anyway xD
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, GCN, 3DS)

Top 10 - Super Nintendo

Posted by Voltex Oblige , in Video Games Jun 18 2012 · 190 views

Part 3 comes a little later; my excuses are homework, volunteering, and the awesome new episode of RvB which I will be detailing tomorrow.

  • Donkey Kong Country (1994)
  • Super Mario World (1991)
  • Mega Man X (1994)
  • Earthbound (1995)
  • Earthworm Jim (1994)
  • Star Fox (1993)
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (1992)
  • Secret of Mana (1993)
  • Contra III: The Alien Wars (1992)
  • Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest (1995)
  • Axelay - Owned on Wii VC
  • Chrono Trigger - Owned on Wii VC
Of note, this is the first list to mention two titles from the same series (that series being Donkey Kong Country). In addition, I do own several games on this list, but unfortunately my SNES has suffered the same difficulty fate as my NES, making it a pain to play them.

N64 tomorrow.

Top 10 - Gameboy & Gameboy Color

Posted by Voltex Oblige , in Video Games Jun 17 2012 · 105 views

And here we have Part 2 - Gameboy & Gameboy Color games. I haven't owned any of these ever except for Tetris DX, Oracle of Seasons and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, so those are absent and this is all stuff that makes me wish I'd been born in the '80s.

  • Shantae (GBC, 2002)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (GBC, 1998)
  • Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (GB, 1992)
  • Donkey Kong Land (GB, 1995)
  • Kirby's Dreamland 2 (GB, 1995)
  • Wario Land 3 (GBC, 2000)
  • Pokemon Red/Blue (GB, 1998)
  • Pokemon Yellow (GBC, 1999)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (2001)
  • Metal Gear Solid (GBC, 2000)
So I lied... the SNES will be coming tomorrow though. These ten would obviously be on the 3DS VC if I were to get them. It took awhile for me to decide which game I would put as number ten; the other option was Operation C. However, Metal Gear won out after I remembered having fun with the little bit of Snake Eater 3D that I've played.

Red Vs. Blue Episode 3

Freakin' awesome, as has been the usual with this season. B-)

However, should I be able to watch the episodes at 8pm eastern if I'm not a sponsor?

E3 Report: Wii U

Posted by Voltex Oblige , in Video Games Jun 05 2012 · 95 views

Looks like the Wii U will be coming in black as well as white off the bat- I'll probably just get white anyway, unless they release a blue version soon as well. However, from the sounds of it it'll be costing $700, and that was one of the reasons my parents refused to buy a 360 or PS3 way back when. And I still need to get a 3DS...

New Super Mario Bros. U is a good title; certainly better than "Wii U" or "Mii (ugh)". I like the blue in the title. Flying Squirrel Mario looks rediculous, and I'm sad that they didn't bring back the copter suit. However, I'm also glad we're not seeing Raccoon Mario AGAIN. Good to see you won't have to play as a Mii if you don't want to as well. Hoping that the special Yoshis won't take over the game; I enjoyed how Yoshi was used in NSMBWii, you just needed to be able to use him in every level. The backgrounds are a joy to take in, and I hope it won’t be the same for entire worlds- I’m also glad the levels themselves have unique appearances compared to the other games in the series.

Pikmin 3 looks amazing, and appears to be four players as well, definitely a good thing. The Rock Pikmin look dumb, but also kinda cool- I just hope that we’ll see one or two other kinds of new Pikmin as well (preferably within onions, please Nintendo). I can’t wait to find out what the storyline for this game is. I’m also hedging my bets on my parents at least helping to get the Wii U almost solely on this alone, with some help from Batman: Arkham City and Mass Effect 3.

Scribblenauts Unlimited... I dunno. I haven’t played either DS title (though I am hunting Super Scribblenauts down for a go-around if possible), but I feel like this is a series that would be better staying on the portable systems. However, I haven’t heard any real details about this game yet, so I’ll save my opinions for later.

Rayman Legends, appearing to be a direct sequel to last year’s Rayman Origins, is one of my most anticipated titles, no questions asked. I don’t need story or anything- but if it’s possible, the graphics I saw were far more realized than they were in Origins, which I think says something. Unfortunately nobody else in my family played or enjoyed Origins as much as I did, so I can’t use it to sell the console to them- but it will be a must buy for me.

Nintendoland... I don’t know. This mini-game collection just doesn’t really excite me at the moment- I’ll happily play it if it’s bundled with the Wii U to learn the feel of the system, but if it’s available for a purchase I’ll be leaving it on the shelf (unless publications begin awarding it 9.5s and 10s).

Batman: Arkham City Armoured Edition has changed my mind about buying the PC version of the game. I’m now going to do my best to use this title as a selling point for the Wii U, because this thing has it packed. I’m very happy with it- including all DLC released so far with the game, adding new features specific to Wii U, and even tweaking previously existing tools to function better makes purchasing this game a year late on the Wii U actually worth doing. Bravo.

Panorama View I have heard good things about, specifically that the tools used for the filming could also be used to give games photorealistic backgrounds. That would certainly be great, but I’m praying Nintendo isn’t actually releasing this as a game.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will certainly be worth a look whenever it’s released- I think Sega is making it a little too obvious that this is copying every facet of Mario Kart, but that doesn’t matter. If this thing turns out to be more enjoyable than Mario Kart 7, it will earn a purchase.

ZombiU has a terrible name, but I’ll keep tabs on it. Fairly certain I will end up not interested in the game, but for now, I’ll pay attention.

Assassin’s Creed III looks sweet, but I haven’t played any other games in the serious. xD So I still don’t really know.

LEGO City: Undercover I will keep watch on as well- unfortunately, the trailer looked like it would turn out like every other LEGO game out there, but I remain hopeful that it will show itself to be a unique game.

Darksiders II, despite my having not played the first, was until now my most anticipated 3rd Party game for Wii U (that honour now is with Rayman Legends :P). I’m still really looking forward to diving into this title, and hope that it will be a great experience.

I don’t have much to say for Mass Effect 3- but I think they’ll need to have more than Batman does to make this Wii U game purchase worth the money.

Expect my 3DS reports tomorrow.

They are hilarious. xD Episode 2 wasn't quite as good as Episode 1, but it was still brilliant. I really hope they turn this into a series.

Games Wanted

Posted by Voltex Oblige , in Video Games May 09 2012 · 44 views

The ones I've missed in recent years that I really want to get, and the platform I want them for...

1. Portal 2 (PC)
2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PC) - though I haven't played anything else in the series, so I have no idea what it's like
3. Portal (PC)
4. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
5. Left 4 Dead 2 (PC)
6. Counterstrike: Global Offensive (PC) - yes, not really out yet. shut up.
7. Batman: Arkham City (PC)
8. Battlefield 3 (PC) - unfortunately, I've gone to some sites and I think it would make my computer melt.
9. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC)
10. Mega Man 10 (Wiiware)

In other words, I want so many PC Games right now that I'm already severely disappointed. Now, the next 10 games I'm most likely to be adding to my arsenal:

1. League of Legends (PC) - heard it's free, so I'll be aquiring it this weekend.
2. Portal 2 (PC) - with the map editor available and all that jazz, and since it's been a year since I watched X play through the game (props if you know who that is), I'm seriously wanting this game right now.
3. Portal (PC) - will come right after (or at the same time as) Portal 2.
4. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (PC) - I enjoy TF2, and I'm in want of another PC FPS, so I might as well go with the guys I know I'll like.
5. Batman: Arkham City (PC or WiiU) - guaranteed I'll own this game in one form or another. Especially if it goes down a bit in price.
6. Elder Scrolls V: Slyrim (PC) - regardless of whether I ever play the other games, I want this one.
7. Terraria (PC) - to be a short and sweet purchase. Probably won't play too much (certainly not the hours I've put into Minecraft), but I think it'll be fun while it lasts.
8. Cobalt (PC) - Mojang's platformer thingy looks pretty sweet.
9. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) - only so low because I'm not even sure I'm going to be able to freakin' find a copy.
10. Slot reserved for some PC FPS for online (excluding all CoD titles and Brink); suggestions?
