E3 Report: Wii U

Looks like the Wii U will be coming in black as well as white off the bat- I'll probably just get white anyway, unless they release a blue version soon as well. However, from the sounds of it it'll be costing $700, and that was one of the reasons my parents refused to buy a 360 or PS3 way back when. And I still need to get a 3DS...

New Super Mario Bros. U is a good title; certainly better than "Wii U" or "Mii (ugh)". I like the blue in the title. Flying Squirrel Mario looks rediculous, and I'm sad that they didn't bring back the copter suit. However, I'm also glad we're not seeing Raccoon Mario AGAIN. Good to see you won't have to play as a Mii if you don't want to as well. Hoping that the special Yoshis won't take over the game; I enjoyed how Yoshi was used in NSMBWii, you just needed to be able to use him in every level. The backgrounds are a joy to take in, and I hope it won’t be the same for entire worlds- I’m also glad the levels themselves have unique appearances compared to the other games in the series.

Pikmin 3 looks amazing, and appears to be four players as well, definitely a good thing. The Rock Pikmin look dumb, but also kinda cool- I just hope that we’ll see one or two other kinds of new Pikmin as well (preferably within onions, please Nintendo). I can’t wait to find out what the storyline for this game is. I’m also hedging my bets on my parents at least helping to get the Wii U almost solely on this alone, with some help from Batman: Arkham City and Mass Effect 3.

Scribblenauts Unlimited... I dunno. I haven’t played either DS title (though I am hunting Super Scribblenauts down for a go-around if possible), but I feel like this is a series that would be better staying on the portable systems. However, I haven’t heard any real details about this game yet, so I’ll save my opinions for later.

Rayman Legends, appearing to be a direct sequel to last year’s Rayman Origins, is one of my most anticipated titles, no questions asked. I don’t need story or anything- but if it’s possible, the graphics I saw were far more realized than they were in Origins, which I think says something. Unfortunately nobody else in my family played or enjoyed Origins as much as I did, so I can’t use it to sell the console to them- but it will be a must buy for me.

Nintendoland... I don’t know. This mini-game collection just doesn’t really excite me at the moment- I’ll happily play it if it’s bundled with the Wii U to learn the feel of the system, but if it’s available for a purchase I’ll be leaving it on the shelf (unless publications begin awarding it 9.5s and 10s).

Batman: Arkham City Armoured Edition has changed my mind about buying the PC version of the game. I’m now going to do my best to use this title as a selling point for the Wii U, because this thing has it packed. I’m very happy with it- including all DLC released so far with the game, adding new features specific to Wii U, and even tweaking previously existing tools to function better makes purchasing this game a year late on the Wii U actually worth doing. Bravo.

Panorama View I have heard good things about, specifically that the tools used for the filming could also be used to give games photorealistic backgrounds. That would certainly be great, but I’m praying Nintendo isn’t actually releasing this as a game.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will certainly be worth a look whenever it’s released- I think Sega is making it a little too obvious that this is copying every facet of Mario Kart, but that doesn’t matter. If this thing turns out to be more enjoyable than Mario Kart 7, it will earn a purchase.

ZombiU has a terrible name, but I’ll keep tabs on it. Fairly certain I will end up not interested in the game, but for now, I’ll pay attention.

Assassin’s Creed III looks sweet, but I haven’t played any other games in the serious. xD So I still don’t really know.

LEGO City: Undercover I will keep watch on as well- unfortunately, the trailer looked like it would turn out like every other LEGO game out there, but I remain hopeful that it will show itself to be a unique game.

Darksiders II, despite my having not played the first, was until now my most anticipated 3rd Party game for Wii U (that honour now is with Rayman Legends :P). I’m still really looking forward to diving into this title, and hope that it will be a great experience.

I don’t have much to say for Mass Effect 3- but I think they’ll need to have more than Batman does to make this Wii U game purchase worth the money.

Expect my 3DS reports tomorrow.

I don't believe they'd make the same mistake Sony did with the PS3, or even repeat the 3DS price mistake. So... Yeah, I don't really believe that rumour. =P

It did; I believe they showed a trailer for a 3DS version of Scribblenauts Unlimited.

I'm hoping it's bundled, if only because of Zelda: Battle Quest. =D

Scribblenauts Unlimited and LEGO City Undercover were the highlights for me. Scribblenauts because I loved the original and this looks even better, and LEGO City because it looks to combine the best aspects of the Travelers Tales licensed LEGO games, LEGO Island, Clutch Powers, the LEGO City mini movies, and Grand Theft Auto. Not sure whether either one is a system seller for me though, since I already have a 3DS and both will be available for that. But of course the WiiU versions of both will almost certainly be superior.
