3DS Questions Part 2

Posted by dotcom , Jun 10 2013 · 622 views

Thanks for all the replies on the last entry, that helped tons. I'm not exactly bathing in money right now, so I'm only picking up a couple.
Right now I think the games I'm most interested in are Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Kid Icarus Uprising and Ocarina of Time 3D. I've looked around a bit and those definitely look interesting. However they're all parts of franchises and, like I said in the last entry, I haven't really touched anything video-game wise, as in, ever. So if they're part of series, I'm wondering if they also work standalone? The internet isn't overtly clear on that.
I would try to get Pokémon SoulSilver or White too, but right now 'm still trying to convince my mother that Pokémon isn't the work of satan. It's that kind of household.
Anyway, thanks.

Kid Icarus and OoT are both more or less standalone. OoT is the old 'start' of the series, and KI pretty much just tosses out random references to the old games that it then proceeds to explain right after. =P So yeah; they work fine as standalone games. =P(Heck, Uprising is pretty much the only entry I've played in the KI series, aside from a few seconds of the original; though this is only the third game total. =P)

Layton isn't the absolute best game to take as standalone, but the story is self-contained for the most part save a few returning characters.  OoT is pretty much totally standalone as well save a few mythology notes (it is a remake of an N64 game, after all).  Couldn't speak for KI.

It... Pokémon... what...?

Can't imagine how she'd take to Kid Icarus' Pit being an actual angel then.

Kid Icarus Uprising has some of the worst controls I've ever seen. Just to warn you.

OoT is standalone, with a few notes from previous games.

Just know:

Triforce is most powerful object

Master Sword is used by the Hero

Zelda is a princess

Besides that, basically everything is new and will be explained storywise. If you've never played OoT, you're in for a total treat. One of the best games ever made. Wonderful story and characters.
