Acquired Akida.

I have to wonder: why does a fish need dual gatling guns?

The orange + light blue combo is nice. Not so sure on the transparent light blue and transparent dark blue combo, though. Think Akida could've done with more transparent dark blue parts,

Akida's probably the least function-based of the creatures, the function is hardly a function on Akida alone. It's more there to turn the gatling guns and fins.

Akida's a fish I guess. Eh. Well, at least it isn't a bit of a mess like Ketar is. Akida's... nothing special compared to Uxar or Ikir.

A fish needs dual gatling guns because there's not a lot else it can do functionally compared to creatures with claws or wings (especially when it comes to combat). Like with last year's Protector sets, a launcher is a decent alternative to other more complex functions when working with a small set that doesn't allow for much other functionality.

The reason for the Trans. Light Blue is probably twofold—firstly, because Gali also uses both Trans. Light Blue and Trans. Blue, and secondly, because all of Akida's Trans. Light Blue parts already existed in that color. Personally, I don't mind the effect—it reminds me of the various shades of blue you might see underwater as the sunlight from above penetrates rippling waves.

Akida's function is less impressive than the other creatures, and really works best when combined with a Toa. On top of that, it doesn't work that well with Umarak, since raising the gatling shooters up to fire ahead of him will often cause his own antlers to get caught in the crossfire.

One other issue I have with Akida is that unlike Kopaka, Onua, and Umarak, Akida doesn't have anywhere to store its extra ammo—and since it has two stud shooters it has twice as much of it as any of those sets. It is a fairly easy fix, though—you can replace two of the Technic bushings on Akida's sides with the Technic wheels used for ammo storage on the other sets, which even come in Trans. Light Blue!

Still, despite all Akida's flaws, I love quirky Technic-based sets like Akida in general. And there's a lot that the set does right—the inclusion of a stand for swimming poses was a pleasant surprise, and parts-wise Akida has a substantial part count for a set that size, even if you discount the 24 ammo pieces.

She needs to fight back when people start shooting fish in a barrel

(That was the best joke I could come up with on short notice I'm sorry)
