My Name Is Inigo Montoya

I finally watched The Princess Bride the night of this past Thursday. Even though it was primarily a romance film, and I'm predisposed to cringe a bit at excessive displays of romance on screen (don't shoot!), its humor, plot, and characters were quite enjoyable. Wesley and Inigo Montoya were my definite favorites.

I don't know why, but I've been seeing references about this movie a lot recently.

But yes, it's a very fun film. ^^ I loved the elderly couple that made the miracle pill. XP

:kaukau: Actually, whenever I get those name tags I've considered putting that on them. Other things I've written on those tags:

- Sue! How do you do?

- Woody, and this is my spot!

- Neo!

- Jean Valjean!

- Maximus Decimus Meridius

- Forrest. Forrest Gump.

I think it's an amazing movie, and the book is just as amazing. Probably one of the best page-to-screen transitions out there. It helps that the writer of the book is a professional screenwriter.

I think the reason people like it (like myself) is that there are so many inane parts in it. Oversized rodents, the "not fully dead" scene, the "inconceivable!" scene, and of course the "my name is Inigo Montoya" scene.

I certainly don't think it's the best movie ever, but I think it's entertaining.

I've just never understood the appeal of that movie, no matter how many times I've watched it.

Because you hate everything that brings people joy

... is probably the response most people give when you say that, and as such, you've gained a distaste for the movie. I think it's hilarious, myself. It's not overly random, just whimsical and amusing.

Writer or abridger (termonology?)? I read the abridged version (of course) and enjoyed it even more than the movie.

The "abridged version" IS the original version. The whole backstory for the work-- that it was originally a satirical work by S. Morganstern that William Golding then went and "abridged"-- is fictionalized, so the "unabridged" version never existed. Sorry if that ruins the magic. :P
