40 Years of Star Wars

Posted by Toa Smoke Monster , May 25 2017 · 62 views
Star Wars, 40th, Anniversary
So today is the 40th anniversary of Star Wars. It was on this day, back in 1977, that the first Star Wars film came out, giving the world one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

And since then, we've gotten seven more Star Wars film with more on the way, comics, books, video games, multiple TV shows, and tons of merchandise. (Many of it being Lego sets. :) ) While the quality of these things depends on the person, there's no argument that Star Wars holds a special place in many people's hearts. And with the franchise moving forward, it will no doubt do the same for generations to come.

Here's to another 40 years of Star Wars! B-)

What are some of your favorite Star Wars films, books, TV shows, comics, video games, and/or merchandise?

Hand Spinners

Hand Spinners, Question and 2 more...
For those who don't know what a hand spinner is, it looks something like this.

Anyways, I learned yesterday that these objects called 'hand spinners' are the newest craze going on right now. I actually didn't even know that they existed until yesterday. All I've seen them do is spin for a long time while someone is holding it. That's it. I guess they could spin on their own while their laying on a table or something similar, but when I saw people try to do that, the spinner became mobile and crashed into stuff.

I've also seen them being sold for all kinds of different prices. Online, I've seen them being sold for a couple dollars. But at my local Kroger they were being sold at eight dollars for one spinner. That's not to mention that my one of my coworkers said he bought one for twenty dollars and sold it to someone else for forty dollars. (Yes, FORTY DOLLARS!)

I guess I just don't see the appeal of them. I mean, they look cool, and it's neat that they can spin for as long as they do. But I just don't see why people would spend so much money on them. I personally wouldn't spend more than five dollars on a spinner, if I were to get one.

Am I just missing something here? I admit that I don't always keep up with what's popular these days, so I very well could be. If I am, can anyone explain to me why these spinners has become so popular? I'd really be interested to know. Especially since people are apparently willing to buy them for twenty to forty dollars.

And what do you think of the spinners? Do you like them, or not?

Quick Thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Posted by Toa Smoke Monster , May 09 2017 · 85 views
GotG, Thoughts, Marvel, Sequels and 1 more...
It's been awhile since I've done one of these. :P

Anyways, I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. A lot of the jokes were really funny, the action scenes were great, and the movie itself just looked beautiful. It also had a really good soundtrack. It's not as memorable as the first movie's, but it's still good.

Everyone in the movie gets a moment to shine, from Peter to Rocket to Baby Groot. Yondu is probably the one who gets the most character development, though everyone from the first movie who is in this one gets more development. Even the villain is developed well. At least better than some villains from previous Marvel movies.

But even though I did liked this movie, I still prefer the first one a little bit more. I felt like this movie was a little too silly at times. Don't get me wrong, it does have some serious scenes, and they are really good. But I do think that they did go a little overboard with the jokes.

Also, the villain does one thing that I thought was kind of baffling. I'm putting it in spoiler tags, so if you haven't seen the movie and don't want to be spoiled, don't open it:

Overall, this is definitely another hit for Marvel. Anyone who enjoyed the first Guardians will probably really like this one too. It has it's flaws, but it's still a good film to kick off the summer season of movies. So if you haven't already, go check it out. You will be entertained.

Have you seen GotG Vol. 2? And if so, what did you think of it?

Star Wars, The Force and 2 more...
It's May the Fourth, so I thought I'd post something Star Wars related here to celebrate the occasion. And what better way to mark the day than to show one of the first YouTube videos I ever watched ten years ago, which just happened to be a Lego Star Wars homemade video.

May the Fourth be with you all! B-)

Six, Years, Job, Work
That is how many consecutive years I have worked at my job as of today.

Wow, that feels like a really long time. I started out as a regular attendant at the beginning, but I've worked my way up over the years and became a manager. Now I help run my department.

It's been a good six years. Here's hoping the next six will be just as good. B-)

So for the last week or so, my Youtube recommendations have been showing me videos of the part in the animated Beauty and the Beast where Lefou sings to Gaston to cheer him up. Except the scene has been altered in certain ways in each video, which ranges them from funny to odd to disturbing. Here is one of those videos:

And here's another one:

Maybe I should start looking up different stuff on Youtube. :P

Thoughts on Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser

Posted by Toa Smoke Monster , Apr 16 2017 · 114 views
Star Wars, The Last Jedi, Luke and 2 more...

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably known that this trailer came out the other day. Star Wars fans have been waiting to see what Luke Skywalker return to the franchise. He made a cameo in Force Awakens, which was cool. But it's great that he will have a bigger role to play in this movie. :)

One thing I really liked about this teaser is that it didn't give that much away about it's story, similar to how the first Force Awakens teaser did back in 2014. I know that's a given, since this is a teaser, but I hope that it's something that the next trailer or two will do as well. Say what you want about Episode 7, but at least it's trailers did a great job of getting people excited for the movie without revealing a lot of its story. I really hope the next trailer for The Last Jedi can do the same.

The other thing that I thought was interesting about the movie is Luke quote stating 'The Jedi must end.' I've read some theories on what he really means by this statement. I seen some say that he might've turned to the Dark Side, which I highly doubt would've happened. Another theory I've seen is that he believes that balance can be restored if the Jedi stop existing. I guess that kind of makes scene, but if that is the case, then we know that Rey will probably convince him otherwise.

But I've also seen some theorize that Luke has become a 'Grey Jedi,' someone who uses both Light and Dark sides of the Force. They think that Luke's quote about the Jedi ending is him stating that the idea of what a Jedi is thought to be up to that point in time needs to stop, so that a new kind of Jedi can come to be. I actually really like this theory, and it's one that I kind of hope is true. But we'll all find out when the film comes out in December. B-)

What do you all think of this teaser? And what you all think Luke means when he says 'The Jedi must end?'

Marvel Studios: Here's a teaser for Thor: Ragnarok! :)

Me: Those movies can wait. :P

As for what I think of the trailer, it looks great IMO. They picked a great song to go with it. Plus, it has a Guardians of the Galaxy feel going for it, which makes it even better. November can't get here soon enough.

Quick Thoughts on Life

Posted by Toa Smoke Monster , Mar 27 2017 · 123 views
Life, Space, Horror, Alien
I can't remember a time aside from the summer season where so many movies came out that I wanted to see within weeks of each other. Logan, Kong, Power Rangers, Beauty and the Beast, and Life all fall into this category for me. I guess this means I'll be spending a lot of time at the theaters in the near future. :P

But that's off topic from what I want to talk about in this entry. I saw Life this past weekend, and I thought it was an entertaining movie. The characters were interesting, the special effects were good, and the story was pretty decent. It kept me on the edge of my seat at a few moments throughout the film, which is good for a horror movie in space to do. :)

I guess my only real complaint about it is that it doesn't feel like the movie does anything new in the 'space horror movie' department. I will admit that I personally haven't seen many movies that fall into that category, but I felt like this movie's story has been done before. That being said, I still thought it was enjoyable. Plus, it did have a couple good twists to keep things interesting. Or at least, they kept me interested.

Overall, I did enjoy this film. It's not going to be my favorite movie of the year, but it was still entertaining enough that I say check it out if you like horror movies in space. That is, if you are old enough to see rated R movies, as this movie has that rating.

Have you seen 'Life?' And if so, what did you think of it?

Hello BZP

And after working roughly 167 hours in the last 12 days at my job, I pretty much feel like poor Arnold here. :P

Joking aside, my busiest week of the year is over, so now I have free time again. Which means I finally have time to do stuff on BZP. It feels good to have said time.

So, did I miss anything in my inactivity?

...Until March 21.

Another Spring Break is here, which means I'm going to be spending most of my time working at my job starting this weekend. (It's the busiest week of the year for us) Thus, I won't be on BZP until it is over. I MAY be able to visit in the mornings, but I wouldn't count on it.

So until then, I head off to a cave of inactivity. See you all on the flip side. B-)

Quick Thoughts on Logan

Posted by Toa Smoke Monster , Mar 09 2017 · 80 views
Logan, X-Men, Marvel and 2 more...
Normally, when I talked about a movie I've seen, I like to go into detail about it. However, I just don't have time to write such a piece at this point in time. But since I've seen Logan twice this past weekend, I decided that I'd post a quick summary of my thoughts on it. And here is said post. There are only mostly mild spoilers below, just to give anyone who doesn't like those a heads up.

1. The main cast, which includes Logan, X-23 AKA Laura, and Charles Xavier, are all great in this. Hugh Jackman in particular does a great job of showing the struggles Logan is going through in the story. The other characters are good too, but this is Logan, Laura, and Charles's story. It doesn't stray from them too often.

2. The story itself is definitely different than previous X-Men movies. It's more of a personal story, one that really doesn't huge huge action scenes. Don't get me wrong, the actions scenes in Logan are great. But they are not on the scale as some of the action scenes in other X-Men movies, and I actually think that that makes Logan's story even better. It didn't need a giant showdown to make it interesting, and one wasn't shoehorned into it either. It was allowed to tell its own story, and it was better off for it.

3. This movie uses its R rating really well. It has a lot of adult language in it, but none of it felt forced, as if they were just saying adult language to say it. It felt like it was used organically. Same goes to the action scenes. While they didn't feel as big as action scenes in the previous movies, they were definitely more graphic. This movie isn't afraid to show you what Logan's claws can do to someone, as he stabs people in the head with them and cuts off people's limbs. X-23 also takes out a lot of people just as violently. It's brutal, but many people have been waiting for this to happen in a Wolverine movie. And Logan gives them their wish.

4. The year that Logan takes place in is 2029. It does have some futuristic stuff, like people with robotic limbs and vehicles that can drive on their own. But it still feels grounded. There is nothing futuristic in this movie that I saw and said to myself 'We'll never have that by the time 2029 actually gets here.' I could see these things being real by the time that year gets here, and I thought that was really cool.

5. I do have one minor complaint about the film. I will note that this is sort of a big spoiler for the film, so stop reading now if you don't want to be spoiled. This complaint is about X-24, the soulless Logan clone. It's presence just kind of felt off in the movie. I just feel like they could've used another character to be this final villain for Logan to face. This being said, my issue with it isn't really that big, as it's only in a few scenes and when it is on screen, it's actually kind of terrifying. I really felt afraid for the lives of the other characters when X-24 shows up, which is what a good villain is suppose to do. I just think that this could've been executed differently.

Overall, Logan is my favorite Wolverine movie and second favorite X-Men movie in the series. (Days of Future Past is still my favorite) This movie has a great story and its a fitting sendoff for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. I'll miss him playing the character, but all things come to an end at some point, I guess. At least he goes out on a high note.

Have you seen Logan? And if so, what did you think of it?

I beat Super Metroid Again

Posted by Toa Smoke Monster , Feb 23 2017 · 103 views
Super Metroid, Metroid, Nintendo and 2 more...
So I beat Super Metroid for the second time ever today. Sadly, it was only at 94%. I looked everywhere for the remaining items that I was missing, but I couldn't find them. I know I could've looked up where they were, and I did that for some of the ones I needed help finding. But I actually had been playing it on and off over the last few weeks, and I couldn't exactly remember which items I had and had not gotten already. And with my playtime going over eight hours, I figured it was time to put Mother Brain down and get the game completed. :P

I am a little saddened that I didn't get 100% in the game, but at least this gives me an excuse to replay the game in the future. And besides, I had a lot of fun playing the game. But I wanted to go ahead and move on to another game for now.

And that game is The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for the 3DS. I got the game a long time ago, and I managed to beat the first two dungeons. But then I stopped playing for some reason and never got back to it. I plan to start over on it and finally complete it. I don't know if it will be at 100%, but I would like to at least try to get that percentage on it if I can.

I've only beaten two Zelda games in my time playing video games, and those were A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds. I plan to add Majora's Mask to that lineup, and hopefully I'll get enough free time to do so. :)

What is the most recent video game that you have beaten? And was it at 100%?

Pokemon Go: Gen 2 Incoming

Posted by Toa Smoke Monster , Feb 15 2017 · 117 views
Pokemon, Pokemon Go, Gen 2 and 2 more...

It's official, everyone. New Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go! B-)

Later this week, over 80 Gen 2 Pokemon will become available to catch in the game. The baby Pokemon of Gen 2 have already been available to be caught from catching eggs. But these will be catchable by throwing Pokeballs at them.

There will also be new berries as well as items that help to evolve certain Pokemon. I don't know much about them as of this entry, but more info will probably be released for them soon.

I've been waiting for this announcement for a long time. I still play Pokemon Go on a daily basis. Not to the extent that I did a few months ago, but I play it enough to get the daily bonuses. This, however, will most likely give me a reason to play it a lot more, and I can't wait to get back on the hunt for catching new Pokemon. B-)

What do you guys think of this announcement? Are you excited that Gen 2 Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go?

Short Stories and Comedies.
