Yeah, the RPG newb is me. Never seriously TBRPG'd before, but Spirit's new RPG looks totally worth joining. I submitted my entry, and I'm looking for tips/pointers/any form of help you might want to give me.

A few things you should know,or that I want to know:

I'm not sure how often I'll be able to check the RPG, and I don't want to really fall behind.
I hate playing catch-up.
Is it worth playing?
Are there any really big 'no-no's, other than no god-modding and stuff?

1) Make a friend, or at least get to know somebody. Safety in numbers, and you have somebody to give you tips.
2) Track the topics, and refresh the page very once in a while.

I would give you some tips, but from what I hear COT RPGs and Bionicle RPGs are completely different. :|

This is false. The people are usually different and their attitudes range dramatically, though.

Basically, it's just a matter of being yourself. Everybody has different styles of gaming and writing (For an example, i use a lot of foreshadowing and explain events after they happen with a lot of specialization in combat and characters), and you gotta keep this in mind, not just in dealing with other players but also being yourself.

Also, watch the veterans. I tend to discourage people from following how I do things since I can sometimes be hard to follow (well, at least), but if you see an RPer who you know, respect or sense is worth following after, ask him/her for additional tips and learn from that player's styles. And yes, i mean asking people other than myself. tongue.gif

Also, remember: DETAIL DETAIL DETAIL. Don't magically pop up somewhere and play the most basic steps. Explain motives, actions, reactions, steps of processes, take into account you're not the only one in the game. Everything from the character down to what the character does must be taken into account.

Finally, about catching up, you don't have to read every post. Skimming pages really quickly, reading posts you think are more important and plot-developing more carefully when you see them. Waffles also makes an excellent point -- make a friend or two to help you and keep you on tabs.

What he said. Addie, don't get scared: you'll get the hang of it after a while, and you've got two friends to help you. Just be yourself, make sense, don't G-mode, and watch the vets.

Right. Thanks so much, y'all. biggrin.gif I'll definitely be taking that advice to heart.
