Trains

Something I've always loved doing was travelling to new places on trains. I've loved trains my whole life, and always got a thrill out of train travel. Lately, though, travel along the train line I live near to the city has become stale, because I've done it so much in my life, and as of late, I've travelled parallel to the line by car quite a bit, to and from my nan's place (before she went in to care).

When I move away, I hope to live near another train line for a fresh change. Many train lines in this region have connecting diesel lines and services that take country passengers to the city. I'd love to live near a line that has one of those.

I've only travelled on a non-tourist diesel train once in my life (about to be twice this Friday), so I'd live the chance to do that more.

Examples of electric passenger trains that run in Melbourne:

320px-Showgrounds-railway-station-melbourne.jpg-A very common train in all parts of Melbourne. Connex no longer runs our train services.

320px-Metro-liveried-XTrapolis-train-863M.jpg-A more common train on northern lines (I think), does not run on my line. I've only been on this kind of train once, on a trip with Scouts to Puffing Billy. It is designed to be graffiti-proof, and easier to clean.

320px-Siemens_train_in_Metro_Trains_Melbourne_Livery.jpg-Another common train on my line. Also graffiti-proof.

320px-Refurbished-Hitachi-train-42m.jpg-The oldest trains on the network, probably close to retirement. Only few enough to count on one hand still run.

Examples of diesel passenger trains that run in Victoria:

320px-Vlocity_train_at_lara_victoria.jpg-This was the train that inspired me to travel on a diesel this Friday, after seeing one go by at a level crossing near TAFE. I have never been on one before (though I did nearly get the chance on the way to April's Pokemon tournament), and it would be a dream come true to get the chance.

320px-Vline-sprinter.jpg-This rail-motor is what runs on the diesel line near home, and will be the diesel I will travel on on Friday. On our line, however, the train is only 2 coaches long, rather then three like here.

320px-Breakwater-bridge-geelong.jpg-Last time I went down this diesel line, this diesel train was in service there. Sadly, we couldn't take it home because it broke down later that day, so we were forced to take the bus. This particular diesel has since been retired and replaced by a rail motor, but others of its class still run on other lines.
