Updates Regarding Projects On Lego Cuusoo

It has just been brought to my attention that the Bring Back Bionicle project has also been removed from LEGO CUUSOO's site. Naturally, this is a massive blow to our project. Following is a blog entry by LEGO CUUSOO regarding this and similar projects:

Removing “Bring Back” Projects

LEGO CUUSOO is designed for you to submit your own new and original ideas to be considered as potential LEGO products. Since “bring back” projects are links to retired products the LEGO Group owns, they aren’t original or new and aren’t appropriate for CUUSOO. We will be contacting owners of “bring back” projects and removing them over the course of the next week.

The projects I mentioned in my previous BBBC entry have also been removed. Curiously, my project regarding the baterra remains active, which means the reason for their removal remains unclear. A comment on said project also points against Bionicle's likely return, but does give an interesting revelation:

I hope this project makes it! One of the CUUSOO staff members said that a whole theme is unlikely to be brought back (sadly that puts my project into doubt) but new single BIONICLE sets could be released if they get enough votes! So please, support this project!

This means that it could still be possible for Bionicle sets to be released without an actual comeback if projects like this gather enough support. Despite what the staff member said, (s)he may only mean that toylines cannot be brought back via CUUSOO (toylines have been brought back in the past), so if such a project does get passed and result in the release of another Bionicle set, it may yet lead to a possible comeback of the line, so please do support projects like this!

I don't want to conflict with you, but I don't think you should get your hopes up even if Baterra is approved. All Cuusoo entries are one-shot ideas, and it's certainly unlikely that model could garner enough popularity to rekindle the entire theme. Just as they said, it's unlikely to be brought back, so even one specialty set wouldn't be enough for that.

I, like Cholie, doubt a BIONICLE project getting through Cuusoo would lead to a full comeback for the line, although it certainly would keep the theme closer to the spotlight. As it is, though, Cuusoo is essentially a testing-ground for individual ideas. A whole theme is much more complicated than any individual idea, so TLG would probably have to put years of market research into determining not only whether BIONICLE could be brought back, but how it could be brought back and not have the same problems it had during its first nine years of existence.

With that said, I will keep my eye out for BIONICLE-related projects that do treat the theme with the dignity it deserves and offer a meaningful tribute to the many years of enjoyment it provided.

I do not particularly miss the "Bring Back BIONICLE" project because it never laid out a solid plan for what, exactly, it would be creating. A continuation? A reboot? It was all very vague. There have been many proposals that have been a lot clearer, and hopefully that project's removal will inspire people to make more thought-out and dedicated BIONICLE-related projects.

Now Cuusoo can finally be utilized for its intended purpose.

Let's be realistic. Petitions aren't going to cut it. They haven't and they won't. Ever. If someone wants to bring back BIONICLE, then Cuusoo isn't the place for it - even if they allowed it.

I actually like the points here. I don't often fold but I will here.

I figured an individual set wouldn't bring back Bionicle, but it's a nice thought. :P I assumed that because it would show Lego how popular Bionicle still is.

BIONICLE was axed because it wasn't popular enough.

Maybe we need to make it MORE popular?

maybe it would be more popular if we were on a different site that doesn't have 3/4 the people not caring about bionicle anymore

First of all, I doubt the percentage is anything like that. Not wanting BIONICLE back doesn't mean people don't care about what it was.

But in any sense, BIONICLE was until the end even more popular on BZP than it was in the wide, wide world. BZP was full of devoted BIONICLE fans who had in many cases followed the story for years. But in terms of set sales, BIONICLE was slipping, gradually losing older fans without being able to replenish the fanbase with new ones.

Your comment implies that places like BZP were responsible for BIONICLE's end, when in fact BZP was the life support keeping the theme alive, and in the end even those devoted fans were insufficient for sustaining the theme. If BIONICLE's existing fanbase couldn't keep the theme alive in the first place, it'll need more than just them to bring it back: it would need the support of brand-new fans.

it just seems like considering only what, 1000-2000 members are still active out of our 47000 total members, and most of those still active are just content with bionicle ending, some are just here for old friends, and others are here for the new lego based forums that have nothing to do with bionicle at all, so i think i prove my point, well, in my opinion

There's an absolutely massive difference between being on the site still because you want to talk to your friends, and not caring about the set line. I don't want bionicle back. I was never here to talk about sets and storyline, but that doesn't mean i don't care.

So what if people are content with bionicle ending. What would you rather have? The Story and Sets end the way they did, Or have it run on and end up hating it?

Just because people are content doesn't mean they no longer care, and that's something a lot of people in this "bring Bionicle Back Club" need to learn. Just because we aren't about to cry and scream and have our lives ruined by a toy lines ending, we're content to move on with our lives and accept the impact that the toyline had. For a lot of people, this was the best time to end the toy.

I wonder, did Lego get rid of BIONICLE just so they could make those cheap, annoying, and just plain stupid Hero Factory sets? Because if they did, I would start a boycott. No joke.

no, they got rid of Bionicle because it was the smartest move to make from a financial standpoint, and introduced Hero Factory for the same reason.

Lord Kini Hawkeye,

My guess why most fans are angry is that BIONICLE ended too abruptly. What happened to the Toa? Was Spherus Magna attacked again? Will more Toa die? Will more Makuta strike back? There are so many unanswered questions and new possibilities. It's like making a movie then not bothering to finish it, but also showing it at a theater. The toy line just...stopped.

While it's true the story could go ANYWHERE from now, Lego isn't yet ready to bring it back. True, it ended abruptly, but that didn't shut the door on the entire story. I'm sure Greg will update it again when he has time. It's only taking so long because he now has a daughter to look after.

okay i usually don't get into stuff like this but

hero factory sets are not cheap, their plastic is just as strong as regular lego sets, and their joints are nigh-impossible to break(compare that to the 2008-2010 bionicle/early hf joints)

also annoying what. they never did anything to you, you are free to ignore them

"just plain stupid" is, like, a matter of opinion, yeah, but the sets still have good designs, and probably undergo just as much market research and have just as much thought put into the designs as other lego themes

also boycott lol what an original idea

Actually guys, you know what? I'm sick of waiting for Lego to bring Bionicle back. Tomorrow I'm marching to the Lego headquarters and will demand Bionicle's return. I'll bring guns, knives, nunchucks, heck, even Winchester 30-aught-6 357 twelve gauge black powder shotgun. I WILL boycott Lego, and we WILL get OUR BIONICLE BACK. Who wants to join ME for this GLORIOUS EVENT?!

also if you get the Winchester reference you're awesome.
