No. Pokémon is not ending, but changing.

I take back my entry about Pokémon ending. Actually it's going mobile! Pokémon GO takes the main series games we're familiar with onto the smart phone. Will it replace console games? I don't know. But it'll be interesting to see how the franchise will transform from here.

In Pokémon GO, you search for Pokémon in the REAL world, not just in a game. This will encourage engagement in the local environment and community, which can only be good for the next generation(s) of children.

That doesn't sound like a replacement at all. Seems more like an experiment. Not surprising. They seem to be using that franchise for a lot of testing recently.

Yeah, it's not replacing the main series. Junichi Masuda said that he's considering ways to connect GO to the main series games, though.

The concept seems cool, but I want to see how it's being executed (or should I say... Exeggcuted? Huh, huh? No, that was terrible). Hopefully we get some gameplay footage relatively soon.

I don't think there was ever any reason to worry. Nintendo has a lot of franchises that are much less profitable than Pokémon that they've never officially cancelled. Let alone ever scheduled some big announcement that there WOULDN'T be new games. If they were going to be announcing BAD news, do you think they would have been trying to build hype for that announcement days in advance?

And yeah, it's pretty obvious that this is going to be a spin-off and won't be replacing the regular Pokémon games by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah. There was no reason to end Pokémon in the first place, since unlike Bionicle, the franchise has remained consistently successful since its debut, with no signs of stopping. Not to mention the fact that next year is the franchise's 20th anniversary—it would follow that any "big announcement" between now and then would be a positive thing related to that, rather than any sort of doom and gloom.

This new thing seems cool, but I am wondering when we'll see the next main series game.

My guess is that they were saving the next main series game(s) for the 20th anniversary as part of the celebration. Plus with all of those Yellow remake rumors going around... (mixed feelings on that)

Fun fact: 2006, Pokémon's 10th anniversary, was the last year to not have a new main series game. I wouldn't be surprised if same was the case for its 20th.
