Whilst I Still Have My Blog
I must take this opportunity to broadcast to you all the wonders of Ogre Battle 64.
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber is probably my all-time favorite game. It's a strategy-RPG developed by Quest (who, if I understand correctly, was absorbed/partially broken up by Square a few years later) for the Nintendo 64. The game was one of the few RPGs releases on the Nintendo 64, and it came out shortly before the end of the system.
The game has you putting characters in units of 3x3 grids. 5 characters go in one unit, and most character classes will perform better if placed in certain places on the grid. For example, if you put an archer in the front, she'll get one strong attack, whereas if you put her in the back, she'll get two slightly weaker attacks. There are also some larger units, such as Golems, which count as two character, but take more hits and deal more damage.
There are around 40 missions in the whole game, with some side quests scattered in there. You do each mission on a terrain map, starting in one base and going around capturing others, until you get to the boss unit. You have to be careful where you send which units and how you balance them.
Another cool part of the game is the storyline: depending on what decisions you make during dialogue, the game can turn out in dramatically different ways. Certain characters will either join you or work against you, and there are six different endings.
You can get the game for 10 bucks on the Wii's Virtual Console. Please buy it. It needs a sequel.
