I Bear Glad Tidings Regarding My Computer

It'll be home on Monday. :D I just really hope they didn't wipe the hard drive, but there's nothing important on there that I can't replace. It's more just a hassle of reinstalling everything.

Now, the tricky part is, do I go ahead with installing the memory upgrades I bought >__> I'm terrified to touch anything in there now, even though it was probably a freak accident or manufacturing error. Heck, I'm scared to put my graphics card back in now. And I think I touched some of the mechanical compinents of the card when I was removing it. Does touching an internal part of a computer irreperably damage it? Is it the finger oil, or what?

It's the static electricity.

However, it depends on where things get touched; just like CDs. Like, you can hit the top side of a CD, but if you so much as brush the shiny side, then things start to go wrong.

But I didn't feel/see any discharge...do you have a small amount on you all the time?

My plan this time around is to install one of the two, make sure the computer works, THEN put the other one in. :P

I believe so, though I could be wrong about that. Haven't really read up on it. You don't always feel electricity discharging, though; if you've ever gotten a static shock from someone, it doesn't usually leave any visible signs.

That's a good idea. =P

You should've just looked at it without taking it out. =P Given that both go the same way(Or, at least, theoretically should. Laptops are different.), or if needed the opposite way, it's always a good idea to know which way they go. =P

No, the components and the slots are both identical. And I needed to take a picture of the specs. Although I realized afterwards I could have just looked it up >>

Yeah, I wasn't entirely certain if this was a desktop or laptop. =P Basically, if the sticker goes one way on one, put it that way for the other. =P
