My old mysterious Lego box - Help wanted!

So today I dug into my old tub of Lego, which is technically mine, thanks to historical proof of ownership and credible abandonment.

There's a few elements in the box that I don't recognize, as a few sets got mixed together in with the old stuff. I was wondering if some resident Lego experts could assist me in identifying some of this stuff and solving some of the strange mysteries included therein. :)

I've never seen any of these Lego plates before. They have two ridges down the center, and smooth knobs on the top. I'm wondering whether they are just old Lego plates, or Mega Blocks...I highly doubt the latter, as I don't recall any contributions to the Evil Empire over the years, but checking...also wondering what set they could be from.

I also don't know what the elements with the big holes in the side are, either.

More of the same. On the upper right hand corner, those weird flat pieces look like flags, but I'm not sure they are. Also the strange plates come in yellow with the ridge (towards the upper left) and in black"seat" pieces.

There's a few more weird pieces in here too, but that's the gist.

Wheels: The red ones clearly came with the first set (house), and the slim one attached to the gray 2x2 plate is an airplane wheel, but I have no idea where the other wheels came from.

Minifigs: No idea. Help?

Also, those propeller blades are weird. I think I've got the parts to build a few cars, a plane, and even a boat in here somehow.

Which boat?

What is it with red parts with ridges? Also I'm wondering how common 1 stud round bits and two-stud plates in silver metallic are. (Not that I'm going to sell any of this. My precious.)

I think this is an old brick separator in the middle, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure, if it is a brick separator, how one would use it. (My brother and I thought it was a TV remote. :P Go figure.)

That ends most of the major mysteries. I took a few more photos, if you want to look:

And I have a bunch of tower-worthy white, black, red, yellow, and blue Lego bricks of various sizes: 2x2, 2x4, 2x6, 2x8...something like that. :shrugs: I'm displeased with my current lack of green, orange, and purple, not to mention brown and grey. I did purchase the Sunset Speeder, so I do have some orange, and Cloud Cuckoo land has some green (and also covers pink, not that I care), but still.

Still, it's a good set of MoCing parts that I think will do nicely. If only to build the next Tower For Bionicle Destruction. :P

(Not that I've had much time for that sort of thing recently. The Categorical GregF Refrence has been sucking up all time not expressly dedicated to homework. I want it and another big real-life thing done by the end of September. That should leave me enough time to, oh, pull off three more huge projects/plans before the end of the year. Lots of fun. :) But little time for Lego. Still, I'm looking to improve things majorly in that respect, so maybe around the first of the year I'll finally do MoCs. No promises though.)

* * *

I said I want something that I want,

Something that I tell myself I need,

Something that I want,

I need everything I see.

That would make sense with the dune-buggy base that was missing a wheel and the red roll-bar. :P

That helps; I can definitely see a bunch of parts from there in here. :)

For the minifigures, I can tell you that the one with the shark on his shirt is a character from the Lego Stunt Rally game. I had no idea a minifigure was ever actually produced for him, but apparently there was.

As for those fleshy figures, those aren't LEGO, and I'm pretty sure the pieces you have with the smooth tops aren't either. I know because I have a (non LEGO) set like that that my sister once bought me which contained a minifigure with the same hand pattern and leg design. And I'm pretty sure the pieces had that same smooth bottom pattern but I'd have to dig out the set and check.

The brick separator is used to take small plate pieces (like 1x2) off of larger base plates. If you take the end with the studs on it and put it on top of the plate, and then pull up while pushing on the brick, the wedge-like feature will (supposedly) lift the piece off the base plate. I had one in green and recall it working well for the most part.

(And even though it wasn't written for the movie I am obliged to give you a thumbs up for the song lyrics.)

man I have that dragster set... got it when I was so young, I never remember it being built with all the pieces. But I did always have it mostly together and played with it tons... should rebuild it, if I can.

And that one minifig who is only a torso and a head with a red helmet I'm pretty sure is from a lego mini-racers line. My friend had one and I remember complaining that normal minifigs would have taken up the same amount of space and it felt like a ripoff getting half of a weird one. I can't remember the name of the line though so I can't verify...

Are you thinking of these sets here? They, too, are only a torso and a head, but the torso in those sets is different than the one seen in fisher's picture. They also aren't flesh colored. Actually the torso in the photo looks really weird to me as there doesn't seem to be a spot for arm holes.

It appears that some rogue parts have invaded my Lego collection. I'm going to need to investigate this further. Out of curiosity, I'd like to know what they are, but I suppose that is a secondary concern.

It also explains some of the wheels - the bigger ones have connections to some of the "rogue" plates.

The flesh toned minfigs are definitely megablocks. I remember them from a school project, where I compared a Lego set with one from the knockoff. The large majority of the stranger sheened bricks are most likely megablocks as well. As for the 'bush pilot', it is from one of the mid-nineties Outback sets.

Are you sure about that? Because I own both a Mega Bloks and a Best Lock figure and what he has strongly resembles the latter (Mega Bloks on the right). Also the Mega Bloks bricks I have have a bottom that more resembles traditional LEGO, and they have a "Mega Bloks" label on a stud, or elsewhere on the bricks surface, so it wouldn't be completely smooth.

But that can probably depend on when the sets where released and/or what line they where in, and I have no idea what the design history is for either of those groups. For what it's worth, the Mega Bloks sets I own are this one and this one. The Best Lock set is this one.
