Sorry for lack of updates. It's easier to keep going than it is to decide when to update.
So for this task a database was recommended, so here's my database:
I had planned on using JavaScript, but using this is way easier, and much better.
This is the database-based categorization system results. It isn't as clunky as the JS preliminary version, and is a lot cleaner. It's simple conceptually, but it's somewhat complicated on the code level. I may make some minor tweaks to improve accuracy, but I'm mostly satisfied with it.
I entered the Erebus topics in there just to test things.
My hassle is getting all the data into said database:
That's the worst-case scenario. I'm going to program up a file reader in PHP for the longer files, which should make the process faster and a lot easier on me.
Some of the markup for the BIG ones has errors in them, however, which will have to be corrected before I can run a string reader accurately. That does not promise to be a quick and easy task.
I may have an issue with blog posting sizes - the blog choked on the raw Compendium, a mere 112 quoted posts, and I had to divide it four ways. While the categorized version is much slimmer by design, getting 100,000+ Qs and As, even divided 27 ways like I'd originally planned, may be a challenge. I shall yet see. I do have several alternative formats that I'm going to use, but I really wanted to get the text onto BZPower once again, and if I can't do it, it will be a disappointment.
Anyway, I was hoping for this update to be a bit better, but I'm inundated with homework at the moment and somewhat tired. I'll just leave this here as a reassurance that I haven't forgotten anyone who has been waiting for this.
Next Friday I'll try to have the Compendium through. I've already decided to run that separately from the other old stuff because of reliability discrepancy between it and the older stuff. I'll post that when I'm done. In any event, I'll let you all know what's going on.
