the line isn't usually too bad. i would actually advise not getting there early (unless you're talking obscenely early), as people line up all the way around the building ahead of time and that actually makes it take much longer. once the line gets going it moves faster, and after a couple hours the line is pretty short.

 

then again, i've been an exhibitor nearly every year i've gone, so feel free to take that advice with a grain or two of salt.

I don't actually recall any time when people actually got turned away unless they arrived shortly before the end of the public hours. Arrive early and you should be okay.

I'm not so concerned about getting turned away.  I've visited with prepaid tickets for the last several years and know how long the line gets, but you're right, it does move fast.  I'm more concerned about not getting into the center until hours into the public visiting time.  I like to get in early and use every minute of public visiting hours, and losing a couple hours of Lego joy to a long line would be a bummer.
