Confusing the Teachers

Obsessionist

"So, what if, say, I needed to cite a source, but the source may not be published by the due date for this paper?"

"Well... What?"

"If I know what I need to say, can I just turn it in sans citations and add them once the source is published?"

"How do you even know about this source if it's not published?"

"...I wrote it. This paper is a continuation of those papers."

In related news, anybody know how to cite in-press sources in MLA?

"Study of effectiveness of recursion in source citations for papers."

I gave up on learning proper citation methods years ago... before I actually got out of college, actually, which didn't help things for me.  Nowadays I just throw in a URL reference and call it good.  :P

Well if the source is you, you could probably cite yourself and not your work. I mean, you can't plagiarize yourself by stealing your work (which was always what my teachers warned us about first and foremost). If you want to cite the source so readers can actually reference what you're writing, then it would probably be best to update it later, I guess?

Just look at it this way; you're not ripping anyone off and nobody but your teacher will bother with citations anyway. =P

Use Easybib. If it's not one of the 100-odd options, don't bother. :P

I do, it's not, and I must bother if I want to get my IB diploma.  I would be fine with just stating things I myself have discovered--it's certainly morally OK--but it looks suspicious to have uncited facts, particularly when those facts are so pivotal to my paper.
