Best way to buy a Gameboy SP? Entry posted by Obsessionist April 11, 2015 834 views Share
 Followers 1 I guess I need to make sure I get a charger and that headphone adapter, right?
Lyichir Posted April 11, 2015 Any particular reason you don't want to go straight for a Nintendo DS? It plays Game Boy Advance games too, and based on a cursory look at eBay it seems to generally be cheaper (plus, it has a regular headphone jack). The only drawbacks I can think of are that it wouldn't play classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, and that it wouldn't be able to do multiplayer on Game Boy Advance titles.Either way, unless you have a friend who can offer you a deal, eBay seems like it'd probably be your best bet. Just make sure the seller is trusted and all the components you need are included in the lot. Quote Link to comment
Obsessionist Posted April 11, 2015 Ah, true. I had forgotten that the DS played Advance games. I can't think of any Game Boy or GBC games I want to play that can't get played on Virtual Console, so yeah. Is the DS Lite backwards compatible with GBA games, too? Quote Link to comment

By Virtual Console, I assume you mean you have a system like the Wii? The 3DS was the first handheld system to have a Virtual Console service of its own, so if you want to download older games you would need at least that (and the 3DS Virtual Console does not have GBA games). Obsessionist Posted April 11, 2015 Yep, I'm pretty well-versed in the 3DS, Wii and Wii U Virtual Consoles. My first handheld was a 3DS XL. I'm just trying to find a way to play a fan-translated, fan-produced Mother 3 cart. Quote Link to comment
Dorek Posted April 11, 2015 eBay is always my go-to. I got an SP for maybe 25 bucks a few years ago? Quote Link to comment

I think the DS Lite's form factor would make that less of a risk, but I could be wrong. In any case, my recommendation was based mostly on eBay prices, which based on a brief look seemed to be cheaper for the Lite than for the standard DS. Quote Link to comment
