Question about G1 Toa

Kaleidoscope Tekulo

So, I'm brainstorming ideas for characters, and I wanted to base them off of the Nuva. Thing is, my memory is a bit rusty and I wanted to refresh my knowledge of their personal quirks and traits. Other thing is, reference sites kinda suck for that because they only contain factual info about what they did and who created them, etc.

So basically, are there any references that actually contain more info on their personalities or examples where their personalities came out in the story?

Might have to look up 2001 bios or check the extras on the mask of light dvd...

The old BIONICLE Encyclopedias had short sections devoted to their personalities. I'd check your library to see if they have copies. BS01 also has some personality information. Between those two sources you could probably get a good picture of their personalities, but I also don't know who much information you're looking for.

I'm looking for basic personality info. I don't need anything super detailed like how much they changed, but more like who they are at their core. Dialogue helps or how they handled specific tasks in their own style. Kinda like when Kopaka needed to get a mask from an island surrounded by lava and how he realized he was wasting too much time analyzing and needed to simply act. That shows that he's more of a tactician than someone as impulsive as, say, Lewa who needed to constantly swing from a tree to fight off boredom.

I have some of those bits memorized, but I'm fuzzy on others like Gali, Pohatu, Tahu and Onua. And possibly Takanuva after he became a toa, because he kinda did a 180 with his personality by the end of the story. But I dunno if I'll use him.

Oh, hey! I've got the Encyclopedia. Let me transcribe them real quick.

Gali: On a Toa Team filled with strong personalities, it normally falls to Gali to be the peacemaker. More than once, she has had to get between Tahu and Kopaka to keep them focused rather than fighting. Of all the Toa, she and Pohatu are probably closest to their respective Matoran, taking time to help them and quide them between adventures.

Kopaka: Kopaka was the least social of all the Toa, preferring to spend time by himself. While he usually recognized the importance of being on a team, he was never comfortable wit hit. When not adventuring, he could be found alone on Mount Ihu. He had little patience for fools or reckless behavior. He and Tahu clashed repeatedly, almost coming to blows once. Of all the Toa, it was only Gali and (though he would never admit it) Pohatu whom he considered friends.

Lewa: Lewa rarely took life seriously. To him, being a Toa was an adventure. Although the six Toa were the same age, to an outsider Lewa might have seemed like the youngest of the group due to his boundless energy and sense of fun. Some of that enthusiasm was dampened after he was taken over by a krana, as if he suddenly realized that being a hero was not a game.

Onua: Onua was arguably one of the wisest of the Toa as well as being the least talkative. This caused problems, for he was too quick to let the others go their own way without speaking up, even when he knew they were making a mistake. He has tried to be the conscience of the Toa, helping them keep a sense of perspective about their place in the universe.

Pohatu: Pohatu has always been the most easygoing of the Toa. His philosophy from the start was that everyone would be better served by getting along, and he maintained that attitude even in the face of such extreme personalities as Tahu and Kopaka. He is widely regarded as a loyal and reliable comrade and a good being to have beside you in a fight. He rarely took himself or others too seriously. Like most residents of Po-Wahi, he disliked water and could not swim.

Tahu: Tahu took being a leader extremely seriously. This often caused him to be impatient with the other Toa, too quick to take on dangerous tasks, and not inclined to include his comrades in strategy sessions. While very protective of the other Toa, especially Gali, he had a habit of plunging into rishy situations without waiting for a plan. He could be fierce, short-tempered, and stubborn, but was also an extremely brave and loyal Toa.

There we go. That should help some, I would think. Feels good to actually use this thing xD

E: Also have takanuva if you want him.

Thanks! I thought I had the Encyclopedia on my bookshelf, but I think it's either lost or Akano has it someplace, or more likely we never had it to begin with. =P.

That is a really great start for what I want the info for. I will still try to dig up a bit more in comics and movie extras.

If you don't mind including Takanuva, I'd appreciate it. ^^'

No problem!

Takanuva: Although now a Toa, Takanuva has not changed a great deal from when he was Takua. He still has an insatiable curiosity about new things and new places and prefers exploring to doing more mundane work. He is awed by the power and responsibility he has as a Toa and by being in the company of Tahu and his other heroes. He has proven to be a good student of their training, driving himself hard to master his powers. What he has not shared with the them is that he secretly worries Makuta will return someday and seek vengeance for the defeat at Takanuva's hands. The Toa of Light is determined to be ready should that happen. Although he has been welcomed into the company of the other Toa, Takanuva still feels most comfortable with his Matoran friends, especially Jaller and Hahli.

E: haha oops
