News on Legends of Chima!

Okay, so Toy News magazine predicts that Legends of Chima will be the must-have boys toy in 2013.

Also, an interview with a LEGO employee has confirmed Chima constraction (Hero Factory-like) sets and Chima board games for late 2013.

Also, the Gorilla Clan is now confirmed.

From the interview:

...LEGO expects Chima sales to be 30% more than Ninjago's was in 2012...

This is a good day.

I dunno, it's one thing to announce things like "Friends did better than our predictions" and another to say "This is gonna be such a big hit, and sell even better than our last one!" A little too optimistic IMO. But it'll be interesting to see what new stuff Chima brings to the table.

Keep in mind that TLG hyped both Ninjago and Friends similarly, and both of those were even more successful than they anticipated. A theme performing above expectations is usually a good sign, but that doesn't mean expectations for those themes wasn't high to begin with-- in fact, the early blurbs for the 2011 Ninjago books went as far as to say "Ninjago is LEGO's biggest new initiative since BIONICLE!" Clearly this doesn't suggest a company that's merely throwing ideas at a wall and seeing what sticks. Rather, the success of both Ninjago and Friends was very deliberate, and Chima will almost certainly be the same way.

As for what new stuff Chima will bring to the table, the same article mentions it will have six Hero-Factory-style buildable figures in August. That's something Ninjago certainly didn't have, but which probably suits a theme like Chima a lot more.

From seeing the color schemes in Chima, I'm really excited for the Hero Factory-like sets. Its about time we get more colors of Hero Factory pieces. :)
