BZP Homepage Fan-design

bzpower homepage website design redesign
The messiness of the current homepage's sourcecode kinda gave me a headache, so I decided to just redesign the thing in it's entirety.

Obviously it isn't done yet, so there's still some things missing, i.e. the navigation menu in the right sidebar.
If you have any suggestions or criticism, feel free to post it / yell at me =)

Ah, criticism. The thing that keeps my head from inflating any further so I can actually improve.

I like the reference and community tabs, but feel more could be done to the boxes such as member spotlight, the gallery, etc. Maybe you could redesign the tops of each of those boxes to be more similar to the design you've given the reference and community tabs?

That's the power of gradients =)
And sure, I'll look into ways to make the tab headers a bit more exciting then they are now.

I don't really like the days being separated by individual boxes, I think it disrupts the flow of the page and makes the center column very awkward appearing. One of the few things I think the current frontpage does well is using breaks instead of being framed. The framing of each day just really breaks the consistency of your design (which is otherwise mostly wayyyy better than the current frontpage).

Consider your point taken.
In order to have a more unified design, I'm trying to emulate certain parts of the forum on the frontpage. For the days I picked the category listing (minus the blue headers), which in hindsight was indeed the wrong choice to make.

The other design choice I dislike revolves around the rounded edges on the top panels of each column. If the top banner rounded out like the current one does into the Bohrok body piece, perhaps they would work better. But as-is, I think they also disrupt the flow of the page and look almost over-designed.

The contrast between the top banner, which is square, and the rounded things at the top of the categories is just off-putting. Making them all curved or all square would help.

True once again.
Originally they were (semi-)square as well, but the way that they were gathered really cluttered up the top part of the page. This was just a quick fix to make it look less abomination-like with the new whitespace between the content and the header, and to be fair that part got kinda ignored afterwards.

Once again, thanks your your criticism everyone. Without valuable constructive criticism there would be little to no improvement in the words, and that applies to this design as well.
